I have been researching Havanese for about two years now. I don't where these prices come form on this comment thread. The average Havanese goes for 2,000 - 4,000 $. These are extremely rare purebreds with less than 10,000 worldwide. As a companion dog they should go for 1,500 - 2,000. In Canada alone there are only about 20 + private breeders. It's rare for them to be found in shelters too. Any Havanese found in shelters should be immediately sent to a Havanese association. This breed is rare because it almost went extinct and breeders are trying to re-populate the breed.

I would never buy a dog while 800 dogs and cats are being euthanized in shelters every hour in this country alone.

Look in your local Animal Services, Humane Society, ASPCA - do an online search for breed rescues and try Petfinder.com- adopt a dog, don't pay some puppy mill or back yard breeder for making money off the suffering of breeder dogs.

Look around, educate yourself to what's going on and how you can help make life worthwhile for all the dogs who need help and a good home.
