Well you see my dog got poisoned by my new neighbors. When he is recovered my mom and dad want to give him up for adoption. The reason for this is because they are worried my neighbors will kill him this time by shooting him or something really bad. After he was poisoned i REALLY HATE my neighbors now I CANNOT FORGIVE THEM my mom saw them when they poisoned him but we have no evidence and i know thew wont tell the truth. I want him back so bad but would it be better to give him to a better home. He is like a pure breed German shepherd i do miss him and also my whole family.

Your parents should talk to your neighbors about what your Mother witnessed. If necessary, have the police go with your parents to initiate this discussion. The neighbors should be told that this incident has been reported to the police and your local animal control department. I hope you have already notified those agencies and that you can verify everything you state with a written report from your Vet.

Your parents should ask the neighbors WHY your dog is a problem for them. Does it bark constantly? Is it left in the yard unsupervised for long periods of time? Is your dog allowed to run free and potty on their property? IF YOUR NEIGHBORS HAVE A LIGITIMATE COMPLAINT AGAINST YOUR DOG; YOUR FAMILY NEEDS TO TAKE STEPS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

If your dog IS creating problems for this neighbor; DOING NOTHING will result in even more anger. You can't watch your dog 24/7; and it is quite easy to toss poisoned meat in your yard when no one is there to witness (or prove) it. If your dog is a problem you MUST follow through on a promise to fix those problems. Maybe obedience training. Or confinement in your home or garage when you are not there to supervise him. Do whatever it takes.

This is a very sad situation; because even if your dog is completely innocent of any bad behavior...you NOW KNOW you have a huge problem with your neighbor. This really needs to be worked out between your two families.

I know you don't want to hear this, but if a satisfactory solution can not be worked out between the two families; then yes, the absolutely best thing you could do for your dog is place him in a safe home. His safety should come first if you really love him.

First off, was you dog on the neighbors property when you mom saw them poison him? He shouldn't have been there without someone with him. To prevent further episodes of poisoning, keep him in your own yard, do not let him roam free. Fence the yard if at all possible or make sure when you put him outside, that he is restrained with a good collar and cable or chain. Post no Tresspassing signs at the edge of your property on all sides. The neighbors will have no business coming onto your property for any reason, unless invited. Once they cross what is marked as no trespassing, you can take legal action. Do not let your dog in the yard unwatched/unattended for ANY length of time. Your neighbors arent going to come over with someone watching and do anything to harm the dog, and you will be able to see if they have a gun or rifle. Talk to the neighbors and find out what it is that causes them to dislike your dog. Then work on that. Good Luck! I hope you can fix things and keep you dog.

Large Dogs?

Have you called the police? This is a criminal act (poisoning a dog). Have you called the local SPCA? Did you take the dog to the vet after it was poisoned? Did you keep the receipts?

Hating your neighbor is not enough. You have to DO something (if this story is, in fact, true).

Make him an inside dog and only allow him out when you are able to watch him. If you are not willing to do that then it would be best to find him a new home. It's not fair to leave a dog outside when there is danger of a neighbor hurting him.

It may be best to give up the dog. If you love your dog you wouldn't want him to get killed. One of my neighbors poisened one of my cats. Sadly he did not make it and now we no longer have outside cats. If you really want to keep your dog, try getting a fence. It might not work though because your neighbors could throw anit-freeze covered food over the fence and your dog would probably eat it. You could also see if one of your family members that you visit often would take him. That way you'd be able to visit him without risking his life.

Set up a security camera on your neighbor's house...I'm a dog lover and with the stiff animal laws that we have these days if you can prove that they are trying to hurt your dog they will get in a whoooooole lot of trouble.

NEVER let your pets run loose. Also call the police if you suspet the neighbours of poisoning animals. Such a thing can result in jailtime for them. Personally I would go to the neighbour with a bat and break their kneecaps.

A report should have been made out to the police (you can still do it), AND one to the local animal control as well as the humane society if you have one in your area.

Poisoning animals is illegal, and if no report is made you have no backing if something like this happens again (which it can if they try to do this to other animals in the area)--you need to start at least a report to get this officially noticed.
