I have been doing some research about the statue of St Joseph and burying him in your yard to help your house sell. However, the prayers that I have read that go along with it seem almost threatning to St Joseph. Does anyone know a different prayer?

Prayer to St. Joseph (general prayer, version 1)

O blessed Joseph, faithful guardian of my Redeemer, Jesus Christ, protector
of thy chaste spouse, the virgin Mother of God, I choose thee this day to
be my special patron and advocate and I firmly resolve to honor thee all
the days of my life. Therefore I humbly beseech thee to receive me as thy
client, to instruct me in every doubt, to comfort me in every affliction,
to obtain for me and for all the knowledge and love of the Heart of Jesus,
and finally to defend and protect me at the hour of my death. Amen

PRAYER TO SAINT JOSEPH (general prayer, Version 2)

Oh, Saint Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong,
so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my
interest and desires.

Oh, Saint Joseph, do assist me by your powerful
intercession, and obtain for me from your divine Son all
spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, so
that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may
offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of
Fathers.

Oh Saint Joseph, I never weary contemplating you, and Jesus
asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while he reposes
near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss his fine head
for me and ask him to return the kiss when I draw my dying
breath.

Saint Joseph, Patron of departing souls, pray for me. Amen.

PRAYER TO SAINT JOSEPH FOR SELLING A HOUSE
O, Saint Joseph,
you who taught our Lord
the carpenter's trade,
and saw to it
that he was always properly housed,
hear my earnest plea.

I want you to help me now
as you helped your foster-child Jesus,
and as you have helped many others
in the matter of housing.

I wish to sell this [house/property]
quickly, easily, and profitably
and I implore you to grant my wish
by bringing me a good buyer,
one who is
eager, compliant, and honest,
and by letting nothing impede the
rapid conclusion of the sale.

Dear Saint Joseph,
I know you would do this for me
out of the goodness of your heart
and in your own good time,
but my need is very great now
and so I must make you hurry
on my behalf.

Saint Joseph, I am going to place you
in a difficult position
with your head in darkness
and you will suffer as our Lord suffered,
until this [house/property] is sold.

Then, Saint Joseph, i swear
before the cross and God Almighty,
that i will redeem you
and you will receive my gratitude
and a place of honour in my home.

Amen.

When petitioning St. Joseph for help in selling a home, a believer is expected to bury a small statue of the saint upside down in the ground, facing away from the house but near the "For Sale" sign. After the statue has been buried, a short but HEARTFELT prayer is offered, asking Joseph's help in finding a worthy buyer for the home. This means ad-lib.

Once the house has sold, it needs to be dug up and placed in the new home in a place of honor.

The phenomenon is that people from all denominations engage in this -- not just Catholics!

Sorry, I think that's the only prayer that officially goes with that particular superstition.

You can always write your own prayer. It might work better anyway. Don't forget to bury the statue UPSIDE DOWN and dig it up again when you sell the house.
Took us months and months and several statues before we sold our house. But maybe your prayer will be better.

The Catholics believe in that. I do not ever pray to dead people. We are to pray to the Lord God who is alive in the Name of Jesus who is a live. You think your home will not sell unless you bury the statue. I know of a better way. My sister put her house up for sale on Friday and we all walked around the perimeter of the house pleading the blood of Jesus around it and asking the Lord to sell the house. It was sold by Monday and they had a short escrow and got top dollar. So you make up your mind who will you believe God or a dead person in a statue form.

You know what, the fastest way to sell your house is to repair it (if there are some things needed to be repaired,I mean who wants to buy a damaged house?) advertise (by newspaper or by friends and co-workers)and most of all, pray to God..=>

No burying of statues!

The most popular prayer is the Novena to St. Joseph. It is said for nine days in a row:

Saint Joseph, I, your unworthy child, greet you. You are the faithful protector and intercessor of all who love and venerate you. You know that I have special confidence in you and that, after Jesus and Mary, I place all my hope of salvation in you, for you are especially powerful with God and will never abandon your faithful servants. Therefore I humbly invoke you and commend myself, with all who are dear to me and all that belong to me, to your intercession. I beg of you, by your love for Jesus and Mary, not to abandon me during life and to assist me at the hour of my death.

Glorious Saint Joseph, spouse of the Immaculate Virgin, obtain for me a pure, humble, charitable mind, and perfect resignation to the divine Will. Be my guide, my father, and my model through life that I may merit to die as you did in the arms of Jesus and Mary.

Loving Saint Joseph, faithful follower of Jesus Christ, I raise my heart to you to implore your powerful intercession in obtaining from the Divine Heart of Jesus all the graces necessary for my spiritual and temporal welfare, particularly the grace of a happy death, and the special grace I now implore:

(Mention your request).

Guardian of the Word Incarnate, I feel confident that your prayers in my behalf will be graciously heard before the throne of God. Amen.

MEMORARE
Remember, most pure spouse of Mary, ever Virgin, my loving protector, Saint Joseph, that no one ever had recourse to your protection or asked for your aid without obtaining relief. Confiding, therefore, in your goodness, I come before you and humbly implore you. Despise not my petitions, foster-father of the Redeemer, but graciously receive them. Amen.

There are also some meditation prayers, one for each of the nine days (see link). I imagine that you bury the statue on the first day, and continue the Novena for all nine days.

The Novena to St. Joseph is reputed to be an extremely effective prayer.

I've heard it was St. Anthony, but regardless, it's all voodoo superstition to think that burying a ceramic figurine upside down in your yard and chanting a prayer will bring you good fortune. Be careful of where you place your faith!

Witchcraft? Voodoo superstition? Do some of you posters even know who St. Joseph is? As in Joseph, married to Mary, mother of Jesus?

Just because you may not recognize Saints in your faith, please don't ridicule those that do.

Please tell me you are joking.

I know who St. Joseph is. But expecting that burying a statue of him and praying to it to do anything is ridiculous in my opinion. It strikes me as idolatry at the least.
