You're comparing apples and oranges. There is a difference between man-made laws and God's Law.
There is nothing wrong in becoming a judge in a court of law, provided you have the necessary knowledge of all the laws and have aptitude or qualifications to do so, regardless of your religious convictions. Becoming a judge demands fairness, equality, and justice for all who are brought to court.
Peace be with you.

More of the bible taken out of context. We are not to judge others until we first take a good look at ourselves. If we cannot judge, say right from wrong, how can we ever hope to make a good decision?
As far as a Christian being a judge, it's a job. It's a necessary job. There's nothing in the bible to suggest a Christian can't be a judge.
Now here's the rub: Once you become a judge you'll know the ugly truth about just how this country is run – that all lawyers owe allegiance to the courts, not their clients, that all courts are military courts, that we are under martial law, that this country has been bankrupt since 1933, that there is no money at law, that all crimes are commercial in nature, that we only live in the illusion of freedom, and there is nothing biblical about how our modern court system is run.

After reading what Paul says about judging, do you really think a Christian can't judge? The Judge not that you may not be judged is speaking of judging the thoughts and intents of the heart, not the outward works one does.
1Co 5:9 I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10 not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11 But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.
1Co 5:12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked man from among you.”
Lawsuits Among Believers
1Co 6:1 If any of you has a dispute with another, dare he take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the saints? 2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? 3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! 4 Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, appoint as judges even men of little account in the church! 5 I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? 6 But instead, one brother goes to law against another—and this in front of unbelievers!

There are two kinds of judging
Assesments, helpful corrective advise, and court of law type judgement...
And then there is Cold hearted judgement, which includes: gossiping, making fun of others... not forgiving them... making sweeping generalizations ( Stereotypes)
"Stop judging by mere appearances, and make the right judgement( Good wise and loving kind)."- John 7:24
"To show partiality in judging is not good."- Proverbs 24:23
"Let us stop passing judgement( bad, hateful kind) on one another."- Romans 14:13
"Judgement without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumps over judgment!" - James 2:13
"Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgement on disputable matters."- Romans 14:1
There is a reason for a court of law.
the Law punishes people who commit crimes.
"Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are establised by God."- Romans 13:1
"Render to all what is due them: tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor." -Romans 13:7
> the above verse is talking about Nations, with their governments, leaders, judges, cultures, religions, beliefs etc...
Romans 13 says that Judges and enforcers of the law were ment to punish evil doers... for the sake of the good guys...
So... to answer your question > " Is being a judge in a court of law a sin?" < no
A judges job is to access evidence for and against someone... and to determine whether or not they have commited crimes...
He is not assuming, or judging by looks... or casting him in jail without evidence first... at least I'd hope not > otherwise that said judge should be fired.
I hope this answer has been helpful.
God bless you and yours,

Being a judge is not a sin if you do it for the right reasons and know Gods word. There are still crooked judges that are lead by money and corruption. Luke 18. The unjust judge and the widow. He did not fear God nor man. But she kept coming back to ask for vengence. He grow weary.

There really is no confusion if you understand the "basics." "Man's" laws, which judge behaviors in the flesh are not "God's" laws which judges our behaviors in spirit. Though we are of flesh, we are also of spirit and "judging" according to the Lord is aimed towards those who go around pointing fingers at others, generally for breaking God's laws. They also do it when someone breaks man's laws but what scripture points to is the fact we shouldn't do it at all as a rule. Those hired to do it within man's law, are justified, as they judge behavior in the flesh that affects others in society and are "not" doing the Lord's job, who judges our souls.

Actually God had Moses apoint judges to help him
with all the legal cases that came before him because he
couldn't handle all of them....
So being a judge is not a sin...
The only sin is if the judge is not a moral judge...

Being a judge for the legal authorities has nothing to do with religious judging.
Not only that, but Christians are not told to avoid judging fellow members -- in fact, they are told to judge. What Christians are told is to avoid judging in the sense of nitpicking.
The church/congregation members that engage in adultery and other serious sins must be judged and expelled from the congregation so as to avoid that "a little leaven" ruins/permeates the whole church.
Thus in this scripture, Paul tells the congregation what their responsibilities are. They are to judge not outsiders since they this is none of their business. That is for the established Authorities and God to do; they are to judge internally serious wrongs.
^^^^^^^^
1 Corinthians 5:12-13, 12For what have I to do with judging them that are without? Do not ye judge them that are within? 13But them that are without God judgeth. Put away the wicked man from among yourselves. (ASV)
^^^^^^^^^^
There are many scriptures, however, that warn Christians to avoid unnecessary judging in eating and drinking, and other minor matters. In these personal choices, Christians are told to mind their own business and that those who do not God views as he does murderers and thieves.
In regard to drinking, drunkenness is a violation that the church may judge; so, moderate drinking is what is referred to above.

the word judgment is thrown around like the word ignorant........ they are sweeping and excuse words....... In a way you are making a good point, but the judgment of law is a little different that spiritual judgment...... People call Christians judgmental if we so much as hint at people going to hell, that is not a judgment, but a fact according to the Bible, we are God's or we are his enemies...... point blank............ We did not make that call God did..... If we were not Christian and follow Gods word we would not say it........ but, if you think about the role of a judge he is not accusing, like most people like to think of the word Judge, he is concluding........ innocent or guilty.......stating with strict guidelines as to what is or is not a crime..... and then pronouncing punishment........ and another point is this, the judge is under social laws, government, spiritual is a whole other thing !!!!!! go in peace....... God bless

Matthew 7:1
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
It's not a sin itself. What you judge for others is judged exactly the same amount for you.
Matthew 7:2
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
This was taught by Jesus and anyone after him that contradicts it speaks lies (Paul).
Several people called this "Urban Myth" and claimed the Bible instructs people to judge.
This indicates how out of touch with what Jesus taught we have become.
Christians have become quite corrupt if they are unaware of even this.
-----------
Concerning those who think God judges.
John 5:22
For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
Sounds like the Son judges.
John 12:47
And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
So Jesus doesn't judge those that don't believe.
So who's doing the judging?
Oh yea, the person judges themselves by judging others.
It's best to forgive and avoid judging and love as much as we can.
--------------
All of that was for Christians.
Judges of Law are a different situation.
It's a job like any other.
