Both are altered. When he is eating or playing with something and she wants it she growls and snapps at him. How can I stop them from this?

Sounds like she's trying to assert her dominance over him. In the dog world the top dog gets everything first. If a 'lower' pack member has something the top dog wants, the top dog gets it. It may seem unfair to us, but to a dog that's just how things work.

As long as you are the top dog of both them, you need to support the order they've set between themselves.

For feeding time make sure you put her bowl down first, then his. If that doesn't help at feeding time feed them in seperate rooms, but again be sure to give her her bowl first.

When they go outside, she goes first, she gets petted first etc. As for toys, if she wants it she gets it.

Supporting her in her role should help ease the tension.

She is definately the alpha dog in the pack, and is telling him the only way she knows how to leave her stuff alone.
You cannot change the role of the dog, you can only support it.
When you feed them, make sure they are in seperate rooms, and feed her first.
this also applies to treats, make sure she eats first.
as for toys, dont leave them for the dogs to play with when they want, pick them up and move them out of sight, and you can be the one to instigate play.
removing them after a while.
use the nilif training idea. it seems to be working for mine

Keep them separated at meal times.

I have a foster dog who is food possessive with dogs. I make it a point to pat her, move her dish, and mix her food while she's eating so the aggression will not transfer to humans.

My two dogs are the same way and are both neutered. They are both food possessive and can't eat near each other. I just keep them seperated while they eat and they're fine.
