The Godparents don't really have to know each other, but it would be nice.
The Catholic religion says that the godparents MUST be Catholic, while Lutheran and Protestants say that the godparents can be any religion. I am not a Lutheran, but I have two godchildren that are.

I think you will have a better time understanding this if you were to look at the wiki page concerning godparents.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godparent
There are many reasons that people choose others as godparents, but for whatever reason I would have to think it would be to the child's benefit if they were to know each other, even though they do not have to. From ensuring a young child's religious upbringing, to ensuring that a child has people who will care for it in the case of both parents dying, both or all Godparents knowing each other will only make it easier. How can they cooperate in these endeavors if they do not know each other? Ultimately it is up to you, but if I were in your shoes, I would designate the two main Godparents from two close friends known by you and your husband, that know each other and who are on a friendly basis with one another. As I have stated above , this can only help in whatever role you choose for them to play. Then you can choose these other two people also, if you wish. Let them know you wish to honor them with this position, but have no expectations of them unless something would happen to the original Godparents. Hope this has helped.

interior the Church's eyes, you're unequally yoked. yet even however you do no longer circulate to church all that lots, while it comprises baptism, the belief continues to be there that it eliminates unique sin, and you like that to your toddler. Your husband, from a Pentecostal view, will say it is pointless to baptize toddlers. Ask him the meaning of baptism, and you will learn this is a public occupation of religion. and you will tell him that if it is somewhat pointless, then it would be threat loose. If this is a public occupation of religion, then the youngster can actual make that selection at that element by way of fact it is going to likely be basically as pointless and threat loose to you. And you may now positioned your foot down, and make an appointment with the priest. keep in mind that your husband gets to assert the comparable element to you at an age of duty. this additionally will supply you 2 a while to make issues better out as to how the youngster would be raised religiously.

If you are Catholic, one of them MUST be a Catholic in good standing with the church. They do not need to be related.
I do not know how this works out in the Orthodox, Lutheran, Episcopalian, Anglican, Methodist and (some) Presbyterian churches -- all of whom insist on infant baptism.

Baptism is a personal choice of a person that has been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. Baptism does not save anybody, nor does it have the power to wash away sins. so why are you doing this, you just end up with a wet crying child

I always thought it was whoever you felt extremely close to. Like the 2nd closest person in your life, outside of your family. (Ther person your married to being the 1st.)
But I wouldn't know... I don't think I have 'God parents' 'n I'm not the biggest fan of religion, so I wouldn't know how it work exactly.
Sorry.
