It Was Only a Quarter

Several years ago, a preacher from out-of-state accepted a call to a church in Houston, Texas. Some weeks after he arrived, he had an occasion to ride the bus from his home
to the downtown area. When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had accidentally given him a quarter too much change. As he considered what to do, he thought to himself, "You'd better give the quarter back. It would be wrong to keep it." Then he thought, "Oh, forget it, it's only a quarter. Who would worry about this little amount? Anyway, the bus company gets too much fare; they will never miss it. Accept it as a 'gift from God' and keep quiet." When his stop came, he paused momentarily at the door, and then he handed the quarter to the driver and said, "Here, you gave me too much change." The driver, with a smile, replied, "Aren't you the new preacher in town? I have been thinking a lot lately about going somewhere to worship. I just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you too much change. I'll see you at church on Sunday." When the preacher stepped off of the bus, he literally grabbed the nearest light pole, held on, and said, "Oh God, I almost sold your Son for a quarter."

Our lives are the only Bible some people will ever read. This is a really scary example of how much people watch us as Christians and will put us to the test! Always be on guard and remember that you carry the name of Christ on your shoulders when you call yourself "Christian."
Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

To fellow believers:

I can see that some of you took this story the wrong way. Do you not remember: "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23

There is not a perfect man on earth, NO, not even a preacher!! WE ALL HAVE SINNED!

My word people this is just a story to show what a good deed can do and how we are all tempted.

WAKE UP!!!!

I believe what fishineasy is telling us is that God is closer than you think and if you don’t think you are experiencing the Presence of God just remember; the story of the Bible is the story of God’s desire to be with His people. The whole absolute Book is about that one subject; your personal salvation!

God is extending Himself, stretching out to reach us, to fill our lives with His presence.

Every moment of your life is like a page in a “Where’s Waldo?” book.

God is there, the Scriptures tell us—on every page of them.

But the ease with which He may be found varies from one page to the next, as well as how one’s heart and mind really believes in Him.

Do you REALLY believe? … Then you know, He’s closer than most people think or even know.

This person who just posted this very well illustrated story just got blessed by all the deriders and mockers and scoffers, just like our Lord Jesus said this would happen to any who followed His precepts and doctrines. Nice job fishineasy, well done, good food and drink.

But the real punch line is the answer to why He even goes through all this trouble to do this for us, and the answer to that of course, is “Love”. Now if that doesn’t being water to your eyes then you either still don’t see the full meaning of Jesus Christ, or you are in for a big surprise if and when He does open your eyes one day.

God bless you fishineasy, and everyone else who replied to this post, in everything you endeavor through our Lord and God, Jesus Christ.

Thank You Jesus!

Interesting story.
But the answers to your questions are:

1. No.
2. I never have, not in sixty years.
3. The morality your fine story talks about is one applicable to real space-time, not to some supposed heaven. Earthly priorities only work on Earth. The priority of someone who says there's a categorically different and much better place than Earth requires him to give up this Earth for the next, reason for faith, and enter a monastery to avoid temptation and avoid wasting his time here, by his professedstandards.
4. Your clergyman is not doing that.
5. He has sold out his religious mystico-inspired religio for extremism--worldly power held by the anti-worldly.
6. The bus driver gave the wrong test. He should have asked him, "Seeing you believe the world is not where you belong--why aren't you in a monastery waiting for those who doubt the world to come to YOU for instruction?

I returned a box that had accidentally been sent to me by accident to an upscale store in Connecticut. The manager asked me what was in it and I replied I did not know as I did not open it. She asked how could I return it without even opening it to see how valuable it was. I replied I did not need to know how valuable it was, I knew it was not mine.
I also refused to accept the reward she wanted to give me.
You don't need to be a preacher to do the right thing. You don't even need to be a Christian.

Given the sheer intensity of what appears to be delusional thinking on your part, please consult a mental health professional at once.

Using the bible as a guide on how to live in the modern world will not only lead you to great disappointment and frustration, it is also quite likely that you are suffering from some form of mental illness.

Gee, what a trite little story.

And the name of the preacher was?

And his parish was where?

Or could it be that this is just made up tripe to frighten others into believing.

You left out the part where the preacher took an old lady for her life savings, and then applied for a 'faith-based' grant to steal tax dollars.

gag

Besides the fact that this isn't really a question, but some copy and paste e-mail nonsense, it is so cloying it gave me a tooth ache.

Sappy, mindless, fiction to tug at the heart strings.
