Israel could rebuild the Temple, or build a Tabernacle again. The Tabernacle does not have to be in the same spot the Temple was in.
If they did that, they would have to follow all 613 laws, and that would be a pain in the a*s.
They have a bunch of explanations about why they do not do those things.
PS: Herod built the third Temple.
First Solomon built the Temple. Then Nehemiah rebuilt the Temple after the Babylonian invasion. Then Herod built the Temple. The Temple Herod built never held the Ark.

Actually....They are Rebuilding it!!! The limestone Is / Has been "Mined" from Quarries in Indiana & is / has been shipped to Jerusalem. The "Holy Impliments" used in the Temple are alread "Duplicated", as are all the "Musical Instruments"!!! Until recently it WAS THOUGHT that the "Dome of the Rock Temple" was built on the "Jewish Temple" but that has now been Proven Wrong!!! Actually just behind the "Wailing Wall", there is an area of "Trees" which is the "True Site" of the "Old Temple"!!! This was a TV Special on the "Naked Archaeologist" series this year. John

Google The Temple Institute. This organisation is researching the very strict biblical requirements for building/rebuilding the temple.

Basically, cuz the site that was 'ordained' by god now sites the Golden Domed Masque. They would have to destroy the masque first, but that would just irritate the muslims even MORE. Though there are some rabbis that are being trained in the Levitical Order of Sacrifice, in case it is rebuilt.
Besides, it was one of the signs of the Messiah in the messanic prophesies that the messiah was to rebuild the temple...no temple, no messiah.

From what I understand about it, the Dome on the Rock (muslim) is in the place where Solomon's temple once stood and Jews would like to have the "same" place to rebuild their own temple.

Great question We Jews can't do it because the Moslems build a mosque called The dome of the rock on the place where the Temple stood.

From what I have read and been told in order for the temple to be rebuilt the world has to come to a world peace. No more war and fighting. People will all rebuild it together. There is more about it in the bible.

The re-building will begin when the Messiah comes. This Third Temple will be on the Temple Mount, exactly where it previously stood.

The Jews would have to take complete control of the Temple Mount, and that won't happen as long as Islam has a claim on it for their own religious purposes.

because of the numerous biblical prophecies which state that the temple will rebuilt as a result of the messianic age. here are some examples:
Ezekiel 37:36 - "And I will form a covenant of peace for them, an everlasting covenant shall be with them; and I will establish them and I will multiply them, and I will place My Sanctuary in their midst forever."
Micah 4:1 - "And it shall be at the end of days, that the mountain of the Lord's House shall be firmly established at the top of the mountains, and it shall be raised upon the hills, and peoples shall stream upon it."
the messiah is not here, ergo the temple can't be rebuilt.
