I don't know how much you need money (or want it) but it's usually best not to leave a job unless you have another job. At 16 though, it's not really a big deal... I live in the Philly suburbs, rates differ from area to area, but I started bussing at a country club, and they paid 8 an hour. Other resturants pay less, but then you get tips, so working Friday and Saturday nights you might make out well above 7an hour. Coffee shops start out at about 7 (like Starbucks) or see if you can get a job at a clothes store in the mall. Some stores only hire if you're 18 or older, but ask around.

You might want to place a post script of what state you live in because than its easier. In the summer although its just seasonal you can get a job as a life guard (take the two week course at the Red cross first). It pays around $11.50 an hour in my state. That's just at a pool but if you get certified for open water you can make a little more. You must be a good swimmer though and it helps to have other training as well CPR, Scuba, (I have still to find out why but....) boating as well. those last two aren't required though. I actually started at 15 but than they upped the age. I'm 16 now though and still can do it. By the way I live in Pennsylvania just to give you an idea of location.

Not many places are gonna pay you above $7/hour if you're only 16. You're lucky that they even hire you. You can TRY places like Home Depot or Lowes. They pay well, but they probably won't hire you. Do your time and ask for more money once you've had a little more experience and age.

Try anywhere in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, or the District of Columbia. They all have minimum wages over $7.

Sage advice: Don't quit your job. It is easier to get another job when you already have a job. Employers should understand that you are willing to work hard but want to make more and that makes you responsible. If they don't, you don't want to work for them.
