My parents haven't taken my dog to get her shots yet. But we're going tomorrow to take her to the vet or something to get checked up. She's about nine months already, and it's possible that she is pregnant, because I saw my dogs mating about two or three weeks ago. Is that bad if she hasn't had her shots yet? And people keep telling me to get her sprayed. What exactly is that?

If the dog is pregnant, the vet may not be able to give the dog shots. You should get the shots for her as soon as the vet says it's possible because they will help keep her healthy.

Having her spayed is a surgery to make the dog unable to have puppies. There are so many unwanted dogs around, you wouldn't want to add to the number I'm sure.

Have her spayed. This will make sure that she will never come into heat and never have pups. If you can't keep up with normal vaccinations for the dog, how can you be responsibe for bringing more pups in the world? You sound like you are very young. Tell your parents to take her to the vet and and do the responsible thing that any pet owner would do. Spaying involves removing of her female reproductive organs, very similar to a persons. I also suggest that you find a new home for this girl that will be more concerned about being a responsible pet owner than you family is. Sorry for the nasty remark, but some people never learn.

If she is pregnant, she should not get her vaccinations as it could cause birth defects in the puppies. She is only 9 months old and possibly pregnant!!? That is awful, she is just a puppy herself and now she will be giving birth to her own puppies. You and your family should have educated yourselves much better before bringing home any pets/dogs. Her puppies will be born without any natural immunities that they normally get from the mother. That leaves them very susceptible to a multitude of illnesses from birth on until they are old enough to get their vaccinations. But then, your parents didn't vaccinate their mother so I doubt that they want to pay to vaccinate a litter of puppies that they plan to give away or dump at a shelter.

Please, talk to your parents about spaying the female and neutering the male. Spaying is surgery to remove her uterus and ovaries so that she will not come into season or be able to become pregnant. Neutering is the surgical removal of the males testicles so that he cannot impregnate a female. It also keeps either from getting certain cancers. It stops them from wanting to wander, calms a male down to be a better pet and family member. The benefits are long range.

When you get a dog spayed, it means that they cant have puppies. This is a very necessary thing to do if you are not planning on breeding which I hope you are not. Your dog could be really sick if you don't get its shots. Also if your dog is pregnant this could be bad also. Talk to your vet tomorrow about getting her spayed.

Tell the vet all of this info (no vaccinations, possibly pregnant).

If she isn't pregnant, please get her vaccinations and de-wormed right away!!! My daughter's puppy died last night, he was only 6 months old, my mother hadn't got his shots nor de-wormed him like she was suppose to, and he suffered for a week and finally died. They think he had parvo. If he would have had the vaccination for it, and if she would have taken him to the vet, he most likely would have lived.

Please take care of your dog!

You should inform your vet that your pet has been bred, because no vaccinations are suppose to be given to a pet that is pregnant. You will have to wait til pups are born and run the risk that your pet doesn't contact parvo, kennel cough, distemper, etc. This pet should have started its vaccinations at 5 to 6 weeks old.

Do NOT vaccinate your pregnant dog. If you do not want her to have puppies schedule a spay asap. Many people choose not to vaccinate their dogs and they are just fine. Dogs have natural immunities to disease, and to know how much immunity your dog has your vet can do a titre test. many prefer to do the titre test than to over vaccinate their dogs.

Oh, please! Get it together. Go and get your dog spayed so that you don't fill up the world with even more unwanted puppies. Are you aware that letting your unvaccinated, unwormed dogs mate is the height of irresponsibility?
I am so tired of cleaning up after other people's litters.
