Well I believe in the people who are praying for me! I'm not believing in God. is it wrong to believe in some people?

Some of you are really close minded and stiff like stones.

I don't think it is wrong. I can't remember asking though. I have asked people to keep my family in their thoughts. Most of the people I am around have no clue about my religious beliefs or lack thereof. When they mention praying for me I tell them thank you and let them go away feeling like they have helped in a small way. Keeps the peace & they maintain their self-esteem.

Wrong in principle, yes.
If you're really an atheist, you would absolutely not believe in the existence of some supernatural omnipresent being or force in the universe who "oversees" everything that happens in the world. Praying is an act practised by those who believe there's such a supernatural being/force out there, because praying involves actually sort of asking this being to grant your wishes.

A true atheist does not believe in the existence of supernatural beings who can change or influence the world around us, so praying is considered a useless act to an atheist and would not mean anything to him.

However if an atheist is asking others to pray for him/her, then he/she needs to take a serious look inside him/her self and possibly rethink his/her deepest beliefs. Perhaps he/she really isn't a true atheist after all. You might be an agnostic (someone who doesn't know if a God really exists or not), or a non-practising Christian/Buddhist/Jew/etc... but you're definitely not an atheist if you believe that praying is something even worth doing (whether you are doing the praying, or whether you are asking someone else to do the praying for you).

If you are an Atheist, what is Wrong? I thought Atheists made up what was right and wrong for themselves (in the shadow of society of course) but I can't see how an Atheist asking someone to pray for them is wrong. Basically it is a request for someone to think of them and hope they do well. Will some scientist come down and smite him for doing so? I think not. Atheism doesn't follow the Religious path of consequences for ethics and morality. Or does it?

Because of atheist beliefs it is contradictory. It would be nice to say consider you or want good in your future or something like that but as an atheist....there's nothing to pray for it's an imaginary act to an imaginary god.
Atheist wouldn't ask that,an agnostic maybe but not an atheist.
If an artiest asked that then they aren't a true atheist

If you are an atheist you are denying God. When you ask someone to pray for you, you are asking them to pray to something that you don't believe in. In a roundabout way you are asking for help from God. who you don't believe in. Are you really an Atheist? An Atheist wouldn't ask God for help with something which is what you are doing. So... I think it is okay to ask for prayers, but you might want to rename your "religion" .

There is no such thing as wrong. An atheist is someone who believes in only what they can see and touch. Even Pope Paul did not believe that a man was sitting in the sky. I feel pity for those called atheist. When you love you are not an atheist. If you love yourself, you are NOT an atheist. If you are alive you are not an atheist. it is that simple. To say a prayer is like saying a peaceful wish. I know someone who says, "thanks to God I am an atheist"

Something that is wrong is something that is a sin. In general it is not a sin to ask for someone to pray for you. God knows our hearts and so our intention in asking that question is known to God. So there may be a small sin associated with a misguided intention, but for the most part it is not a sin, and it may even be a good thing. Of course you will in all probability be asking someone who does not even have the true religion and God will not hear their prayer. But it doesn't hurt to ask.

If you don't believe in God then who would they pray to. I think if an athiest ask for prayer it is because somewhere deep down they may be entertaining the idea that there may be a God. Its ok to be confused or change your mind. People do it all the time. : D

If you are an atheist, why would you want to ask someone to pray on your behalf to a God that you say doesn't exist.
But if you are an atheist that is starting to believe, then no it would not be wrong.
