for example I visited an AG(Assymbly of God) church last wed night & today & they welcome women reading scripture & sharing (without taking the Pastors spot!) they sing& worship with music, but not like a rock band. So why is the Church of Christ(I'm a member of) so darn strict?

Women have the same authority by Jesus as men when it comes to giving the gospel to others out in the ministry. I understand of the roles of pastores & elders of the "main"role , but this CoC location seems more strict, but also as far as music wise we're still praising him as like the OT ways with the harps, all I am saying is it seems some members are trying to play "God" What if God called a woman to do a certain call like ministry & the church elders tried stopping the progress? that is all I'm saying & yes because of that I have moved pasted the CoC (after atteding 3 different locations in over 9 yrs.

I'm no "expert" on the church, though I've been attending since childhood, and my grand-dad was a minister for the church. So perhaps I can shed some light on the "goal" of the church... how closely each individual church comes to achieving that goal is another story (since each church is autonomous -- at least, the WORLDLY aspect -- sometimes we forget that the HEAD of the church is supposed to be Jesus).

In concept, it's simple... the goal is to mimic as closely as possible the church as shown to us in the New Testament.

So when it comes to women in service, we go by the words of Paul in 2 Corinthians 14.

As to musical instruments, though the Bible is full of examples of people using music to praise God (King David and his harp come to mind), there is NO example of a New Testament church using musical instruments... it was always lifting their voices in praise and song. It's possible to have both... for example, one Church of Christ I attended has a minister who is really talented with the piano. Though his gift was never used during a service, we did occasionally have concerts to raise money for special charity efforts.

But back to the other two questions. I don't want THIS answer to get too long, but there's another web tool that might be of use... and I had a hand in developing it.

I just recently helped launch a new website for a Church of Christ here in Torrance, California... and one of our goals is to make the site one of involvement, of "audience participation", rather than just, "Ooh, look, here's a picture of our building and our address. Do come and visit"

One of those features is a discussion forum called "Ask the Preacher". Your question on women's involvement in the church would be a perfect topic to address here.

As for the musical instruments, feel free to ask that one too, or add a comment to a similar question that I already posted there myself...

I suggest this service: http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=538

It's a cheap service that works great! It could be used for a much deeper search. You can use it to get hold of different varieties of background reports, and in addition cell numbers, addresses and names.. you can get unlimited reports... I ran with this because I required to verify more numbers. You can get the name, other phone number, address history, relatives, and much more about anyone! The completly free reverse phone lookup generally doesn't provide anything interesting. To get interesting information, money will must be paid. The free searches don't provide considerably more than what may be found through the phone directory or personal information and they simply require your email to send spam. The reverse phone detective search tool does work, but you should use just the service that I posted above. The last thing you want to do, is pay for a service and find the numbers you want to lookup are not available in their directory.

The service that I reccomend doesn't have any kind of problem , you won't get any bad surprise! Trust it!

Is it strict to do what God says to do in the way God says to do it?

When God told Noah how to build the ark and the specifications it was to have, the Bible says that Noah did all according to the instructions he received.

Jesus told the apostles to teach the things He had commanded them! (Matt. 28:18-20)

Timothy was told to preach the Word when it was popular, and even when it was not popular. In fact, these verses make it clear that some would not endure sound doctrine, but would seek teachers that would say popular things. (2 Timothy 4:2-4)

So, is it strict to just follow the teaching of Jesus? Is it strict to only preach the word?

Galatians 1:6-9 says that anyone who teaches another gospel is accursed. Is it strict to insist that only the same gospel that was delivered to them be taught now?

The Bible does not contradict itself, so if the teachings of two churches contradict each other, then at least one of them must be in error, contradicting the Bible.

Our job is to take any doctrine taught and compare it to the scriptures. (Acts 17:11, 2 Timothy 3:16-17)

If a doctrine agrees with the Bible, accept it! If a teaching does not agree with the Bible, reject that doctrine!

"We ought to obey God rather than men." (Acts 20:28)

If this is too strict, I'm sorry, but I must obey God and His word!

As a child my family attended "the Church of God" and some attended the "Church of God in Christ." My understanding of both doctrines is limited but simply stated women are more easily strayed from the true word of God than men [the garden of eden thing -- the devil didn't approach Adam, but Eve -- and she led the man astray]. So this is why women are not allowed to lead.

Very honestly, I have seen it too many times in this century, to not believe that theremay be some factual basis for this logic, but it really isn't meant to hurt a woman or make them less, because we too are God's creation. However, it is hard to swallow because most of the men who prescribe to this type of thinking almost always forget about their part, which is to first be in humility and service to God and His wisdom, and to treat women with pure kindness as the weaker vessels. Submission to men without them first being in submission to God and his word, is a bad thing to me.

the assemblies of god is based on the fact that there are a movement rather then a church because that's what they were running away from (because of all the rules :) ). if you like one over the other then go to the one you like more.

different churches have different interpretations. and they're rock solid on those interpretations even though they might be from the old testament.

Each congregation of the Christian Church (Church of Christ) is autonomous. There is no central ruling body for all. If you have issues concerning the particular form of worship in your congregation you should ask the elders of that church for enlightenment. It is always an option for you to move to another congregation. A sense of propriety in one place may differ from that in another.

reverse phone number search compiles hundreds of millions of phone book records to help locate the owner's name, location, time zone, email and other public information.

Use a reverse phone lookup to:
Get the identity of an unknown caller.
Identify an area code.
Recall the name of a person whose number you wrote down.
Identify an unfamiliar phone number that shows up on your bill.

Many denominations are more fundamental and conservative (some think restrictive) than others. Visit different churches or read up on their teachings to see what is best suited to you.
