Okay. Let me just say this. The theory that homosexuality is a choice seems severely flawed to me.

1) If homosexuality is a choice, then it is CERTAINLY not a conscious choice? Who would knowingly choose to be gay when they know that it's going to make their lives more difficult. Furthermore, if a person did consciously choose to be gay, wouldn't that mean that they already had an inclination towards homosexuality? Otherwise, why in the world would they choose the same sex?

2) If choosing to be gay is a subconscious choice (perhaps a choice we make unawaringly at a very young age) then that's essentially the same as being born gay, because the person did not consciously choose it and therefore can not be held accountable for "choosing."

I am straight and am/always have been a born again Christian. I simply just think the choice argument is weak and senseless. Also, if you truly believe in this choice theory, please explain when and how people make this decision. Thanks.

A person can choose to be born gay just as a person can choose to be born white or black or Hispanic (which is to say not at all).

It's incredible how many people do think it's a choice though. I guess they're just willfully ignorant or delusional.

I also think it's amazing how Christians will accept that gay people were born gay, but then say that they should live lives of celibacy, devoid of romantic love, something that they would likely be unwilling to do themselves.

I think Paul said once that we should all be celibate, but knowing that love is simply human nature, we should allow it inside of marriage.

The Bible condemns lots of things that in retrospect seem silly from today's society's perspective. Generally Christians don't follow these rules, mostly because they don't make sense. So why is there a double standard for gay people? Oh well, have a nice day.

Counter-argument:

As a Christian do you think it's okay to have sex before marriage?

Is that a lawful act (sex before marriage) of a heterosexual/homosexual couple, in your opinion?

The reason MOST Christians don't accept this theory that, "Homosexuality is a choice," is because homosexuals are NOT allowed to be married in the church, therefore by default they would be fornicating. Whether they're gay or not, they're failing in religious processes.

The decision:
People can chose to have sex or not, that's the whole point...it's giving up that satisfaction to be physically united with someone that is the sacrifice that everyone has to go through if marriage is not in their future.

Homosexuals have it doubly hard because they will never be able to have the blessing of God because Christian beliefs would be opposed to it. Heterosexuals can get married.

This is the "choice"; abstaining from sexual experiences not only for homosexuals but also heterosexuals until marriage.

(I've used the Christian perspective, since you mentioned you were)

Then this just goes into another debate...but that's not where we need to go.

Assume homosexuality is a genetic thing. Then Adam would have had the gene in Eden. Why would a Creator make something that he called good, not good?
Assume homosexuality is an environmental thing. Then it is the sinful environment that has resulted in the sinful behavior. We do live in a fallen world. Yet to have the environment be the cause is the say that we are robots only responding to the changing whims of our environment. As a consequence all those who choose not to sin or repent or become Christians are also doing so as a result of envorionmental effects. Is that how Scripture says we come the Jesus Christ?

So, sadly I am left with choice, Galatians, and 1,2 Chorinthians, and Gen, Ex, Lev, and Duet. All of which are very specific as to the nature and consequences of these actions.

Remember, God will allow us to sear our conciences and give us over to reprobate minds that are lost in the confusion of one's sin.

The American Psychiatric Association changed its ruling about the disease nature of homosexuality as a result of court cases not science.

Proof that Homosexuality is not a choice. Let everyone who claims this statement have sex with the same sex. Choice implies some slight yearning and what better way to disprove that it isn't a choice is to show people that you can take it or leave it... like it's a CHOICE!

Sexual orientation is NOT a choice. But behavior is always a choice. Sexual orientation is not a sin. Behaviors contrary to the Law of God are sins. If a particular psychological trait causes a person to be more likely to engage in certain behaviors contrary to the Law of God, that person has to work harder to avoid such behaviors. In the end, he will be judged on his behaviors, not on conditions beyond his control that may have tempted him to commit certain behaviors.

I understand where you're coming from, and I've thought the same thing. But if we are to take God's Word as Truth, and it says that homosexuality (and all sexual immorality for that matter) is sin, then it is sin - regardless.

Just because something comes "naturally" to us, doesn't mean it's what God wants for us. Naturally, I have no problem sleeping in and being a lazy bum all day, but God said sloth is a sin. Naturally, I love to eat a lot, but God said gluttony is a sin. Naturally, I want to be satisfied carnally, but God said sexual immorality is a sin. Naturally, I feel anger and hatred towards someone who has wronged me, but God said hating is the same as murder.

Does any of that make sense?

Thank you. Honestly, people are getting ridiculous with that whole issue.

One of my good friends recently came out of the closet to his extreme fundamentalist parents and subsequently got kicked out of his house...which he knew would happen. He'd choose something that would leave him homeless? Yeah, right.

Hey, idiot, um...you're stupid. First of all, taking the story of Genesis and Adam and Eve literally is just nonsense now with science today. Dinosaur bones, Cro-Magnon fossils...it just doesn't make sense anymore. Furthermore, the APA ruled it nto a disease because of medical research, not court cases--know your facts before you go around claiming things, you'll only live up to your screen name.

I am just going to start qouting editions of my psychology books with pages....

There is medical research that shows that homosexuality is not a choice. This is accepted in the medical community. There are brain scans that show differences, horomone differences, different brain activity and even brain size.
It's not a freaking choice. Those people need to educate themselves.

Absolutely right. Before I knew anything about sex or attraction to other people I had my barbie dolls kiss Ken and each other. Eventually I discovered that I was bisexual and that was my first way of showing that.
