was tested and was found to contain acetaminophen
I guess it was two samples sent in by someone. Canidae denies it but I am curious as to everyone thinks about it

Does it worry you to use Canidae. I have always found it to be a good food so this was the last thing I wanted to read

I have been feeding 100 pounds per month of Canidae for the past 3+ years. My dogs have had blood tests, as part of yearly physicals, and their liver/kidney function are excellent! Far better than the normal dogs of their ages.
My 12 year old has the liver/kidney function expected in a 4-5 year old. The vet tech came out to tell me that the blood values were outstanding, then The vet was amazed, and asked me what I fed.
A Letter I received from Canidae:
Dear Valued Canidae Customers,

The samples were contaminated from the start. Without a new batch of samples
the test were all void. The person is unfounded and has not produced any
tests results or even called the Canidae Corporation to discuss their finds.
If this was you, wouldn't you?? Please do not believe all that you hear and
read.
Canidae is still one of the top ten foods out there. We were not involved in
any recall and stand behind our products 100%! All our ingredients are
either produced or raised in the United States. We test all products before
and after production.
Canidae maintains samples from all batches made for over a year.
We tested the date in question again with negative results !!
Without hard proof we can only take this as a hoax.
Please put a end to this now !!!

I don't believe it.. One report from 1 lab done on a sample of what MIGHT have been Canidae, they can't even confirm that it was.. Cause it was a little bit of food send in a zip lock baggy..

I won't jump ship on such a wishy wash report that isn't even done by the news.. It's reported on the gossip website of Consumer Affairs.. Read the stories.. It's their own reporter and ANYONE can write and post there..

It's likely Purina or Iams all worked up cause they screwed up and put out such crappy food.. Now they lost so much business to the good guys and they are trying to get the business back..

BESIDES.. This whole acetaminophen thing came to light what.. June.. They have 2 of the 3 foods that had Aceptaminophen, and there was a 3rd. Do you not think that Canidae would have checked their food in June or July to see if they had aceptaminophen in their ingredients. They would know if any of their foods were made at the same 2 places the other two foods came out of. Or if they used any of the suspect ingredients. They would teste IMMEDIATELY to make sure that their food wasn't involved somehow. They wouldn't just not do anything and hope no one noticed..

I believe that anything is possible with any mass produced and packaged dog or cat food. What I would want to know is how something like acetaminophen got into the dog food?
It's so sad the food industry for pets is so messed up. I know that Canidae is a good food, basically. I used to recommend Van Pattens Natural Balance and then it was slammed with recalls and they were a result of a contradiction in advertising that ended up exposing that the food which was supposed to be made up of domestic product only with the exception of Venison from New Zealand (and maybe lamb too?) also had contaminated third world import product in it.
I use a food that was not on the recall list, but I know someone that uses a food also not on the recall list that the canned food (cat in this case) had a nail in it! Recently there was something about a pet food company recalling product because of metal in the food.
I get updates from itchmo:
http://www.itchmo.com
But I haven't heard it from them that this was supposed to be Canidae. They are pretty on top of things. I would hope this would be a case of product tampering by the person that took the sample to the lab. I'd hate to think something like this got into who knows how many bags or batches. Thanks for the heads up and I will keep a lookout for updates, too.

I have to agree with the person that is taking the 'wait and see' attitude. The media is well known for blowing things out of proportion. Things get distorted as they are repeated and passed along. I don't know of a single case of a Canidae fed dog dropping dead from acetaminophen poisoning.

It is understandable after the recent mega recalls on pet foods and people food products that the public would be quick to react but I think there needs to be more research and more information before we all get into a panic mode.

I have fed Canidae for years without any problems at all.

Hmm.. I was just about to switch to Canidae too, good thing I chose a home-made diet instead.

Although there's no proof that it's Canidae food, I would stop feeding it to your dogs just until it's for sure, although nothing's happened to your dogs now, if the acetaminophen keeps entering its' system it could have some long-term effects.

OK First it has not been 100% identified to be Canidae as of yet. It was not brought into the lab in a Canidae bag just in a clear zip lock bag. Until i hear of this report to be proven 100% sure it is Canidae dog food than I will still feed it to my dogs. This can be just a tampering of 1 bag and not a nation wide thing at all.

I'll wait to hear it as beng offical before I react.

I heard about that in Canidae as well as other foods. I use to use it but my dogs hate it and did awful so I switched to Wellness Core. It would worry me if I use it still because acetaminophen is not so good for dogs.

Really... I missed that one. That stuff'll damage the liver if taken over a long period of time.

Yeah, I wouldn't use it, or Felidae.
