I want to replace a chain link fence around my house in Austin, TX. I want to replace it with a wooden fence, that is taller in height. Is there a restriction on to how high it can be? maybe 8 feet? Thanks

Hi, here in florida i just put one up (privacy fence) and when a got my permit they gave the restictions and it said limit 6 feet in residential and 8 feet in commercial zone, so i don't know how it's there, BUT!, about the permit i don't know if you need it in your town, if you live inside the city limits you need one, you don't need if you are outside, AND if you actually need a permit you will need a Property Survey to get the permit no more then 6 moths old, i would recommend to do this since when i did my fence, permit and survey, i found out that my neighbor fence was in my side for like 6 feet!!!, so i don;t know what's your situation.
Hope this Helps!!!

Only 8 to 9 feet. Wooden fences attract termites. An iron fence looks prettier than a chain link.

Different towns have different height restrictions ~ in our community a fence can be 6 feet (residential or commercial)...however, it can only be 3 feet high on corners and in the front yard setback.

You'll have to call your building department and find out what the regulations are in your county.

The standard wood fence in Texas is 6 feet tall Some developments may not allow taller fences and some cities
(like Frisco, Texas) may require them if you have a pool.

Call a repuatable fence installer. Then double check with the city and your neighboor hood assoc if you have one before proceeding. If you are wrong they will make you take it down! too much money at stake

Each city and county has it's own building codes. You'll have to contact your local zoning department and then double check if you are in a homeowner's association.

Fluffernut (really...) is dead on with this one. My city's code is 7' max. wood fence. I also asked the president of the neighborhood association. "Just keep it code," he said.
