In christianity and the bible you had to present present a burnt offering of your best livestock to God, before jesus was born.

Jesus dies so that you may simply pray to God in his name, to be forgiven instead of having to make a sacrifice of your livestock

Hebrews chapters 9 and 10 answer your question. In the old covenant, the Israelites offered unblemished animals of their flocks as an offering for sins. They had to do this every year. But the blood of bulls and of goats cannot take away sins. But Jesus offered one sacrifice for sins forever. "And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God" (Hebrews 10:11-12) Jesus took away sins. Repenting doesn't take away our sin. Repenting isn't the saving act. Christ dying as a sin offering is the saving act. "And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is not remission." Hebrews 9:22 There can be no forgiveness without the shedding of blood. So you could ask for forgiveness and repent every moment of the day, and it wouldn't amount to anything if Jesus had not died His atoning death. His death makes true repentance and forgiveness possible.

Jesus paid the price or all our sins. Jesus was without sin yet he died for our sins, he took the burden on himself. We are still left with a task, to have faith in Jesus, that is done by Loving god and others and obeying Gods law. when we disobey (sin) we must ask for forgiveness.

Why Jesus died For Us

He is our sacrificial lamb who shed his blood to cover your sins: past, present and future. If not he died at the cross in vain. He full filled (Luke 24:44) and nailed the 10 commandments to the cross (Colossi ans 2:14). God will remember your sins no more (Hebrews 10:17). You are a sinner for life, there is nothing that you can do not to sin (1 john 1: 7 - 10). You can not go out into the world and do what ever you wish, just because Jesus cover your sins (Romans 6: 1 - 3). Hebrews 8: 7 – 13 (he wrote the laws into their hearts, so that you would know Wright from wrong.

If you have faith in Jesus and are obedient to God, then you are not under the 10 commandments.

If you do not believe in Jesus, then you are under the 10 commandments, now you need to bring your unblemished goat to the alter every year and sacrifice it to cover your sins but with Jesus, he is our new covenant.

You are justified by faith and not of your works

DO THE WILL OF GOD
You need to find a home church, be obedient, follow his word, be baptized with the holy spirit, show your self approved and do the will of God (Mark 16: 15 - 18)

The short answer is that before Christ the people walked in darkness lost in their sins. Although they were not without hope This hope was promised at the beginning when Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden. God promised a savior by putting enmity between them and the serpent,Satan. All the law dalivered to Moses and the testimonies of the Old Testament prophets point toward the hope of a savior, not to mention the psalms, proverbs and the rest of the Old Testament books.Christ, the Light, born of the Holy Spirit without sin lived a sinless life ,died on the cross taking upon Himself the sins of the world, descended into hell and was raised by the Father taking the keys to death, hell and the grave with Him defeating Satan. What this means to you and me is exemplified in a conversation Christ asked His disciples" Whom do people say that I am?" Peter answered by faith "Thou art the Christ" Christ then said "To you I give the keys to the kingdom." That statement of faith is the key to eternal life. T4

It means that everybody who believes in Jesus can still sin cause Jesus died for past and future sins.

If you're an atheist you better not sin, cause Jesus didn't die for the sins of atheists, and you will go to Hell even for one sin.

Also he didn't die for the sins of Buddhists. Be afraid, be very afraid.

It is a highly evolved continuation of animal sacrifice.
People used to sacrifice their children who were lame, mute, or mentally challenged.
Some people only really sacrificed animals.
The Jews were the first to sacrifice the very BEST, not that which could be easily discounted.
But they only sacrificed lambs.
When Christ was killed, he was not a sacrifice.
He was a religious man caught in political crosshairs-
the Jews were disinherited and had no home, and they needed a King. He led the people, but not to create a city-state.
The Romans feared that this man was going to cause an uprising, and try to create a kind of Israel (as the US helped to do in 1949).
So, fearing the political loss of land and power and tax money, the Romans put him down. (Do you remember, though, that Jesus said in regard to taxes: "Give to Caesar what is Caesars', and to me, what is mine"?)
Or, something like that.
Anyway, the occurences were re-interpretted by a small new society that still relied heavily upon Jesus' own Jewish background.
The Son of God became the Sacrificial Lamb.
Suddenly, Jesus had to have been perfect to have been a sacrifice, so Chrisitians decided to tell only perfect stories.
And his death became the washing away of our sins.
How else to rationalize this awful event?

he made a trade.that he would rather die for god rather than deny god.his dying for god shows us all that there is a heaven and a god, because he resurrected in a heavenly body and talked with man again to prove to them that there is an afterlife when you die,and that you can make it a good one.he paved the path for us,so that we could have forgiveness by repentance, the new covenant, rather than offering burnt offerings and following the harsh laws of the old covenant.the trade is-he would leave this world that offers money, gold, etc.,just so everyone else can follow and have a path.

Jesus died for our sins, however there are a lot of people who don't want to be saved.
God will not force you into a relationship with Him. You must have a desire to have God in your life.

It means that God gave his son Jesus to die on the cross so that he could pay for everyones sins who accepts Jesus as their son. The best way to describe it is if someone takes a bullet for you so that you can live your life. Gods son Jesus did that for you as a symbol that he cares for you and if you choose him you will have eternal life beside God in heaven.
