One of my cats (3 years old) has the strange habit of licking plastic bags. Anytime we go to the store and bring home bags, she comes running and sits there and licks the bag as we are unpacking groceries. Does anyone know why she does this? She has done it for the 2 years since we've "adopted" her.

Probably likes the taste, they use powdered glycerin to keep the bags from sticking together. Glycerin in the liquid form has a mild sweet taste.
I bet your cat has a sweet tooth.

My cat did exactly the same thing, but also chewed on the bag. I started taking the bags away, because he would eat/chew the plastic, which can cause some major problems for the cat, which could result in surgery or death.

I believe that it has something to do with either the smell of the food that was in it. Or maybe some substance in the bag itself. I had a cat who used to lick pictures..

I don't know the reason for sure. I have a cat that does it. We call her Bag Lady. We believe there is a powdery substance in the bags that keep them from sticking together that she must like the taste of.

Probably there's something about the taste of the bags that she likes. If it's something you don't want her to do, you might want to try distracting her by giving her a treat or if she's a cat that likes catnip a toy with catnip in it. If that doesn't work, maybe use a water bottle to spray a bit of water on her might get her to stop.

She smells food ! I'm a cat owner. My kitty comes running when I come from shopping.
Give her a treat before u start unpacking stuff.

Lol, maybe she likes the sound or the taste. My cat has many, many weird habits like that. You never really know why they do stuff, but it always will give you a laugh :)
