I'm 14 years old. I floss and brush everyday. Also get teeth cleaned every 3 months. I have old plaque between my front teeth. I keep brushing and flossing, but it's not working. How do I get rid of it? Will it create cavities?

It's great to hear that you get your teeth cleaned every 3 months. Some people tend to build up plaque and tartar (calculus) more than others... some of which is due to genes, saliva, etc. Have you used a scaler similar to what the hygienist uses? You can usually find them at CVS, Walgreens, or Wal-Mart in the section with the toothpaste. They're somewhat sharp, just be careful removing the plaque. And, then @ next visit, just ask your RDH what other options he/she has.

Good luck!

Some people build more plaque faster, if this is your case, you can buy a dental scaler and mirror in the dental supply isle at your nearest store such as Target, Walmart or pharmacy. Another scenario could be your floss; if you are using a waxed it does not catch the debris, it just slides over it, try an unwaxed floss, but my favorite is J & J woven floss. I hope this helps.

Hello,
dental plaque that is formed after having a professional cleaning always soft plaque, easily removed by a toothbrush, If soft plaque is not removed it eventually becomes hard tartar aka, calculus, to be removed by a dentist.

It seems to me that you need to watch what you eat, like candy or any sticky food will stuck to your teeth and hard to clean them. I would like also to recommend red color tablets from your dentist that will stain temporary the plaque only and show you what areas you have missed cleaning when you brush your teeth. good luck!

I agree with lady x. Buy one of those hard steel dental picks the dental hygienist uses and clean your own teeth. I have done it for years. If you know a hygienist they may even give you one.
