I had a bottom molar (#19) removed nine days ago. I'm not having any major pain, but the area is still quite tender. In addition, it looks/feels like the stitches have come away from one side. What's bothering me most is that the socket is filled with a white gelatinous matter. Is that normal healing? I plan to call the oral surgeon tomorrow, but was hoping to get some feedback in the meantime. Thanks!

If you mouth doesn't smell bad the white stuff is probably your gum healing or if it comes out easily it could be food particles that got stuck in there. Don't pick at it because you can cause it to start bleeding again if it is your gum healing and if it is food particles it will come out after a little while when you drink water or rinse your mouth. If your mouth does smell bad that is a sign that you developed an infection and you need to get it checked out as soon as possible.

What you're seeing is the blood clot. It's very normal for you still to be tender and as long as you are not having any major pain, you are in the clear. Rinsing with some warm salt water will help speed up the healing process.

THIS HEALING IS VERY NORMAL AND NOTHING HAS TO BE DONE TO IT,
FOR THE FUTURE YOU WILL NEED TO CONSIDER MAINTAINING THE SPACE FOR A FUTURE BRIDGE OR IMPLANT.
