Very few people can judge 1000 feet. You said you know you were only 5-10 over. Obviously not, which was it?. You were caught by laser, not loud music. You can fight it all you want, but you need a defense. From what you have said, you don't have one.

First, the laser targets you and you only. Its not like radar that will get a whole pack. When you are clocked on laser, he is sending a beam directly to your car (think smart bomb) and you only. He looks through a little scope, like a rifle, targets you, and confirms with the laser what he already estimated by visualization. It is very hard to beat any speeding ticket, much less laser. You will lose. Your best bet is to try and get a plea to avoid points and insurance increases. It sucks, but right now its damage control time. Besides, even you admit you where speeding. Try and get a deal. You'll still pay a fine, but save on insurance which can go up for years. 30 over is also a serious ticket. Check out your policy.
Also, it isn't smart to try and get out of breaking the law (30 mph over) by admiting to breaking the law (5-10 over) Judges look at that poorly. They believe (rightly) that if you admit to doing 10, it was probably 30.
Kind of like the old 2 beers answer!

If I understand this, the officer cited you for going 30 MPH over the posted limit and you contend you were only going 5 to 10 MPH over that limit.
Yes, lasers are that precise and that accurate. They will pick one vehicle out of a line, not just read the speed of the fastest one in a group. Recording ones are even better because nothing is based on what the officer said it was reading. It is all right there, possibly on video.
The first step to fighting it is to get an attorney who is familiar with this type of case and trust him from there.

There are several Web sites on the internet than can provide you information on how to fight the ticket.

If the officer did track you at a distance of 1,000 ft., then there is definitely a lot of room to fight the ticket. He could have very well been tracking the car in front of you. Don't admit anything in court when fighting the ticket. It's up the the state to prove its case.

The best way would be to go into court on the day specified on the ticket and tell the judge exactly what you posted in the question. It will be your word against his, but it's worth a shot.

There are many ways 'they' can mess up and I have read so many instances. I would not pay it if I could fight it. Here's one way that you can. Please take time to read it and I hope that you get your answers.

A lot of times, they do stop young people in particular because of the loud music. Good luck. It was worth reading.

Be a man you wuss. Take responsibility for your actions. Take your medicine and work on improving your life, becoming a responsible adult and not on how to weasel out of stuff.
