Grievous backers would be most helpful.
We are having a detailed debate, so please answer with some valid points, I thought Sith Lord hands down, but there can only be two so techinically he was not a Lord. AND with skills and time served I am starting to realize the it is not such an easy question to answer.

Darth Vadar at the top of his game most certainly should beat General Grievous. The problem with him has always been his lack of control over his emotions. It gets him everytime.

Vader would win because he has the force. Even though Grievous is fast and has four arms, Vader's abilities with the force make him superior. Also, remeber in Revenge Of The Sith when Obi Wan fights Grievous... Obi Wan doesn't show any dificulty fighting him at first with the lightsabers and Obi Wan even cuts off several of Grievous's hands fairly quickly. Then Grievous runs away and the fight takes a differant turn. So if Obi Wan can take Grievous, vader cetainly can because Vader is supposed to be far more powerful with the force than Obi Wan. Obi Wan only beats Vader on the lava planet by experience.
Also, in answer to your other question about Vader technically always being an apprentice, not a lord, the answer is that all of the sith are refered to as "Lord...whatever their name is". But I guess technically one of the Sith is always an apprentice and the other is a master.

Well, I'd definately have to say that Darth Vader would win if it was a prolonged battle because he has all of the Jedi-Sith powers (Choke would be a good one against Grevious, as well as Push so he couldn't protect himself or dominate with the multiple sabers). However, Grevious would be able to get Vader if he used his speed to his advantage. Even though Vader has the force to tell him where attacks would come from, 4 sabers from different directions would be too difficult to block. If Grevious is willing to sacrifice one of his sabers, he could do a devistating attack to throw a saber, jump after it, and hit Vder while Vader was evading or parrying. (though this might be bad if Vader would just force-catch it and use it himself)

Vader...
Grievous might be more agile, and have 4 lightsabers and better reflexes, and have been trained by Count Dooku...
But Grievous is NOT force-sensitive...
Vader could just force-choke him to death...
Or
Vader could use the force to drop something heavy on him...
Or
Vader could force-push him off a cliff...
During the Battle of Coruscant, Mace Windu uses the Force to crush the general's chest plates. This is why Grievous was wheezing and coughing in Revenge of the Sith.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Coruscant
It goes on and on... But when it comes right down to it, Grievous not being able to use the force means he will lose...

Grievous would win, unless Vader was still using his original body, vader used slower robotic parts then grievous, assuming that grievous went through the rest of his training and fully grasped the use of the force, and taken out his advanced learning chip implanted in his brain, he would win

Well, greivous has four hands, and has no wind pipe (Vader cant screw him by choking him!!)
But yet Vader can block easily and WAS Anikan Skywalker
Greivous has better Agility
Since Grevous is a Cyborg,Vader can electrify him, thus over-loading the chip
Look at tghe Facts!Grevous wins,Vader cant choke him,but Grevous' skills w/ a light saber + agility ,thus dodging the force ligtning from Vader,Grevous would slay the lord of the sith and take his light saber.

It depends which vader you are talking about. The vader before he gets messed up by obi wan or the mechanical one.
I guess it doesnt matter because they could both kick Grievous' ***
