Despite how it seems, my mental state has improved since leaving Christianity, and taking up atheism. I am HAPPIER, now, then I was before. And yet, everywhere I go, I am criticized. Why can't people just let me be? All I've ever asked of the world is happiness. Why can't people just allow me that?

Hexley--unfortunately, most people ask, and I'm not smart enough to lie. =(

Certainly, you have the free will to do anything at all that your heart desires.

But...to answer your "question"..."since leaving Christianity": what do you mean by "Christianity"? Were you merely a spectator at church gatherings? "Raised" or "grow up" as [whatever]? **OR** did you enter the covenant of the New Testament with a sincere heart and open mind? HUGE difference.

If you feel that you are criticized everywhere you go, then perhaps it's your conscience talking to you.

I will pray for your happiness.

It would be nice if when people showed you the flip side of the coin they would leave criticism out of the picture, but most people are not strong enough or secure enough to allow that to take place.
Do not be surprised if at length you find that behind the doors of the world you find nothing.

Who CARES what the Christians think? There are enough intelligent people in the world, why pay any attention to the others? I'm an atheist, and one of my friends is a bible thumping, conservative, fundamentalist Christian, and she drives me nuts. She thinks I'm going to hell, but I don't let what she says bother me. Don't let how other people think of you change how you feel. They're not worth it. Just try to avoid talking about religion, ok?

You might want to quit refering to yourself as a follower of atheism and begin saying you follow humanism as it appears that you do. Humanism is a philosophy of life inspired by humanity and guided by reason. It provides the basis for a fulfilling and ethical life without religion.

Humanists make sense of the world using reason, experience and shared human values.
Humanists see no convincing evidence for gods, the supernatural, or life after death.
Humanists believe that moral values are properly founded on human empathy and scientific understanding.
Humanists believe we must live this life on the basis that it is the only life we'll have -- that, therefore, we must make the most of it for ourselves, each other, and our world.
Humanist philosophies have arisen separately in many different cultures over many thousands of years. Whether or not they use the term humanism, tens of millions of Americans and hundreds of millions of people around the world agree with the humanist philosophy of living a happy and productive life based on reason and compassion.

Many have fallen asleep.
Many have turned away.
Sometimes the sun is just too difficult to always look at.
Just be careful that you don't get caught up in something weird, which can happen during times of stress.
I do not condemn you, but look through the most compassionate eyes toward you.
We are all so fragile.

many people have this prejudice against atheism even if they are ignorant to it or not. I guess the word atheist sounds scary/ugly/bad to those people, and unfortunately, most of those who are judging do not know that much about atheism as they should.
So my attitude towards that is: shame on them! Not on you. You have every right to be who you are.

Goes both ways. I just mention God or Jesus and automatically thought of differently.

Its the world we live in. Just "Grin and bear it" people are going to be the way they are until they want to change it for themselves.
Everyone is a critic therefore everyone is criticized.

ppl critcize u , bcz they care for u , we christians believe that when u become one , u r going to be a great person and full of joy , but as u said u were christian , u no longer like to be one , i beleive that , u got it wrong or u didnt understand God or the bible , bcz if u did , u wouldnt have left it , i am not blaming u , i am just telling u how we think , i feel sad for u bcz u lost ur faith , u may think that i dont have the right to feel so , but yeah i feel it , bcz i care , and all christians who critisize u care , ppl allow u , no one attacked u or forced u to do a thing , and if someone does then he/she is wrong bcz Jesus doesnt want us to do so , my advice to u , is that try to understand christianity and God well , then decide , and know that escaping is no solution

best wishes

I am sorry that you feel that you are not allowed to be happy. You should not worry about what others think or even how you are perceived. We as Christians should not condemn you, because you have a right to choose what you want. We may not agree with you, but we need to accept your choices.

I'm glad your"mental state is happy"! If you also feel content, joy, accountability, peace, and love in your heart, then maybe your in the right place. I'm a Christian and I'm sorry to see you go, but if you're where you need to be then that's good for you. GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS.
