Supposedly, it is rare and the pets affected are young, old or ill. Pets cannot transmit it to humans.

Just like a human we all get bit by mosquitoes and they do itch, but we never know if they do carry the West Niles Virus. Get your pets checked out and get them immunized or something. Protect yourself too. West Nile does kill if you don't go to the doctors soon.
