Hey, if you even think of trying a little bit, it's an easy A which never hurts the GPA. Most schools will allow you not to take PE if you are in JROTC. Most importantly is the leadership lessons. Even if you encounter some jacked leaders you can still learn what not to do. A bad leader in JROTC won't get anyone killed.
Cons: You might not like the uniforms or the hair/makeup/jewelry rules.
Sometimes I have seen some of the kids go off on harmless but annoying powertrips.
My son is in his second year. My rule was that he had to take two years and after that it's up to him.
Good luck, I hope it's a good experience for you.

There really are no cons to JROTC. I was in Army JROTC all four years of high school and have some great memories from the program. I ended up becoming the Brigade Commander in my school and also the Drill Team and Color Guard Commander. On the Drill team I learned how to spin and toss rifles, and we made it all the way to the State Championships. Good times... Also, when I enlisted after high school I came in as a PFC for having four years of Army JROTC.

1- doing well in high school marks wise and being in the JROTC you could qualify for a full scholarship fopr college.
2-you'll learn leadership qualities for the future in any corperate setting.
3-You'll gain confidence in yourself, you'll find you can do things that you never imagined before.
4-JROTC has no military commitment if you think you'd like to join the military this will give you a little taste of it.
b-If you like the military after hs senior rotc for the first 2 years has no commitment, joining as an officer is much better than as an enlisted.

Well I can tell you from first hand experience. I was in it, in 10th grade at my Highschool. Benefits include, higher rank in the military if you choose to join, and a pay increase. There's also life long skills you'll learn from JROTC, and it's an important class to learn about politics, military, and the limits that you can put youself to. I enjoyed it, though I was only in it for half a year, you won't regret taking the course.
Good Luck!

Why would you think there would be anything bad about JROTC? You learn leadership skills, how to get along with other people discipline. You also learn how to work as a team. Also here in Los Angeles they have outside activities in Feb they have formal ball that all the cadets look forward too held at one of Los Angeles finest hotels. Too see all the guy dressed in class A and the ladies looking so fine make a father cry. Former cadet and father of two cadets.

Bad points....NONE Whatsoever.
Good Points....Learn: discipline, leadership skills, what it means to be a soldier, sailor, marine, or airman (greatest people on earth), learn to be a leader of these people.
You also get credit for advanced pay grades in the military if you do well. Build self-confidence, pride (real pride from accomplishing difficult goals), and the ability to reason through complex problems as an individual and as part of a team.
AGE:13-19 CAP cadet. 19-21 ROTC cadet.
been there and done that and darn proud of it.

Pros: If you join the military, you automatically go in with a higher starting rank. You also get to learn a little bit about what to expect if you join. It looks good on a resume after you graduate. Even if you don't join the military, you have learned some valuable information about history, government, and our national defense.
Cons: There are always going to be some kids who laugh at ROTC cadets. But since kids are going to laugh about anything different, don't let it bother you the least little bit.

I enjoyed everything about my time in AJROTC in high school. It was voluntary, I learned leadership, teamwork and skills that I have used since then repeatedly. I worked with some great instructors and even gained in self-esteem. The down side? It finally came to an end.
Oh, I forgot to add, I got to ride on military vessels and aircraft on outings and got to meet some interesting people, including George S. Patton III, Irwin Rommel's son, a number of high ranking politicians from foreign countries. did I mention we were living in Germany at the time? ;^)
