I would have grind that meat, down the drain. I would not take the chance, it could make you sick. Have a good night.

Sorry but you can get just as sick from eating bad beef as you can bad chicken.
Sour smelling meat should go straight to the trash can. You are likely to end up with a very bad upset stomach and cramping.
Don't risk it. The date on the meat is approximate so you can't always go back that.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news....I hate wasting good meat too!

Discoloration and smell are a good indicator that its bad...I would take that back to the store! Sometimes stores will take meat thats about to go bad and mix it in with new ground meat...try not to buy packages that are marbled brown and red. Hope you don't get sick!

Your description implies it may not have been kept properly refrigerated, regardless of its sell by date. And that doesn't mean you didn't keep it in the fridge once you got it home. It may not have been kept properly from wherever it was processed to the store, or in the store, or after you bought it until you got it home. The brown doesn't concern me, but the smell does. I'd pitch it - and I don't throw out much!

Your nose knows. If it smells funky it probably is. The discoloration is not a food safety issue alone. It's the same process that people pay lots of money for when they buy aged steaks in an expensive steakhouse restaurant.

Well hope you haven't eaten yet or if you have you may get sick. Hopefully not. When in doubt always throw it out. Whenever it has a sour smell to it that means it is spoiled and needs to be thrown away. YUCK!
