Very inappropriate. Your mother in law is probably paraniod that ya'll are talking about her. She needs to mind her own business. Your daughter needs to be polite to her grandmother and tell her you were talking about nothing of importance.

It's a bit inappropriate, but I don't think it's malevolent. My youngest daughter used to do the tattletale thing anytime she wasn't getting her way by jumping on the phone to report "Grandma won't let me have cookies for breakfast", 'Well neither would I,so can I speak with your grandma, please?'...so you need to eliminate this type of thing from the equation before you jump into "solving" the problem. You always want them to feel free to call home whenever they need to, but they also have to respect the authority of the house they're in, and maybe that's where some of this stems from. At any rate it shouldn't do any harm to ask grandma why she feels the need to interrogate the child after phone calls (though it's better phrased a good deal differently than what I just said).

A lot of adults have problems with questioning children. I lived it for many years. The children will most times say what the questioner wants to hear. What adults don't realize is that children don't really care about what goes on in the lives of adults. It is wrong for adults to continue questioning children, no matter what the motive is unless it's for something criminal.

unless your mother in law has something to hide i don't think it was inappropriate she might have been trying to make conversation with your daughter it's not wrong. if you daughter didn't tell you anything bad what does it matter what she tells your mother in law.
