You do not need a table.

Just highlight your list, then go to Table -> Sort

The dialog box will allow you to sort using paragraphs.

If you need to have an entry go to two lines, make sure you do not press enter - but use SHFT + ENTER to put in a line break.

This assumes your works cited list starts with the last name.

first make sure that you typed them into a table format.

once in the table you can alphabatize them by any column.

good luck :)
