If the woman is infertile and can't give her husband children then then the wife might encourage her husband to take another so he can have children.
If the wife is really sick and needs help around the house or she can't satisfy her husband's needs then he is allowed to take another wife. There are conditions. The first wife has to agree to the marriage otherwise the husband can't take another wife. The husband has to be able to provide for all the wives and treat them all equally and fairly. If he can't then he should only take one wife. Most Muslim men only have one wife. Many women in the East don't work outside the home. They stay at home all day looking after the home and children so they have no way to provide for their children if they are divorced or their husband dies. By taking another wife the husband has the widow's best intrests at heart and is providing for her and the orphans which gets you lots of good credit from ALLAH(SWT). If a Muslim man does have more then one wife at most he has two. It is merely an option for the man. The reason a man can have more then one wife and a woman can't have more then one husband is because the woman can only be pregnant once a year whereas the man can impregnate more the one woman at a time. Plus if the woman has more then one husband and she has a child then all the husbands will have to take a DNA test to determine who the father of the child is.

One reason is that one man can make four women pregnant, but it is not quite so for the opposite. In Islam, a man can ONLY have more than one wife if, and only if he is capable of treating them all equally emotionally and financially, he does not favor any one over another, and that all parties are consenting. Many men cannot support and have more then one wife, so they simply choose not to be polygamous. In addition, although many men can afford to have more than one wife, almost all Muslim men still choose to be monogamous. Polygamy is merely a choice, and is beneficial in a country where the number of females exceed the number of males.
I can go on and on, but I am not sure if you are sincerely interested or not...

I dont see how which could artwork. Polygamy now could be somewhat unorthodox, particular, in spite of the undeniable fact that it doesnt *bodily* divide the relatives. If a guy with many different halves married somebody with yet another husband, the families could be chop up, they wouldnt understand who fathered her babies between the two adult adult males, and it might fairly be pointless. rather particular any sealings on Josephs section to a married lady substitute into to entitle her to everlasting advantages, to no longer certainly have all of them be his spouse. one difficulty isnt inevitably the different. i understand this. Heaven is heaven. no one would be in a forced problem they do no longer choose for to be a ingredient of. This by no skill could be heaven.

I don't really know, but I think that women were thought less of then men back then, therefore a man could marry 4 women who could give him a lot of kids and do all the chores and stuff so he wouldn't ever have to do anything. I'm guessing that, but I really don't know.

Abraham and Jacob, King David and many other Royalty in the past have practiced Polygamy it was most likely a way of life that was accepted at that time and thus was not sorely looked upon. It was also a way for the people chosen by God to populate the earth with their righteous posterity.

What makes it wrong? If all parties are consenting and no one is hurt, it should be allowed.
Asheiu, where does the Bible say it's wrong? David was Gods favorite and had a couple of hundrend. God even said he could have more if that wasn't enough. His sin was taking someone eleses wife and covering it up, not having multiple partners. Name a verse, please.

Tradition and a lack of cultural prohibition.
Marriage is a civil contract. It has little to do with religion.
Where is it established in scripture?
I am for it, if all parties agree and they can be self-sustaining.
You seem to be Christian, if only in name. Tell us where it says that you can only marry one person. What text? What canon?
Ashieu, where does the Bible clearly state what you say?

I'm a Christian and its wrong. Why is it wrong? Because the Bible clearly states not to take more than one wife.
And there are many many good reasons for this.
1. God said not to. (what better reason could you have.
2. Jealousy. (all women get jealous, and the men in the Bible who disobeyed and took more than one wife had JEALOUS wives)
3. bickering. (the wives argue because they all want to be the favorite and then the man is left with GRIEF. The Bible gives many accounts of this)
and 4. A husband and wife deserve to share a special bond just between them. You can't be as close to someone when there are 3 other people in the relationship always giving you their opinions on things also. It takes away the intimacy of a relationship.
