I am surprised no one knew "offenses" is how this line was written in Aramaic, the language of Jesus.

I always pray both trespasses and debts.

Forgive me for trespassing here, for I am horrible at Greek. But the Greek word IN the Lord's Prayer (opheilema) seems to translate most literally to "debt", but like most Greek words, English can make that seem overly precise. It has more of the sense of something that is owed, including moral faults as well as material debts. But if you read the VERY next couple of verses, Jesus goes on to say: "For if you forgive men their TRESPASSES (Gk. paraptoma) your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Here the Greek word has nothing to do with owing, it has everything to do with unintentional or intentional errors, faults or sins. I think the context makes the meaning clear. But as far as which one you should pray, go with whatever the liturgy of your church. I prefer "trespasses" myself.
