We have 2 GSD's and 13 cats and they will often sleep together and fawn on one another

They do for the most part. I've always had cats and dogs. The one and only problem I've ever had was one puppy I adopted as a rescue that had some behavior from things that happened in her early life before I got her. So one dog out of a whole bunch..for the most part they get along

They do, unless they have been trained or grown up without the other species.
I have had several dogs and cats together, with no problem.
Dogs will challenge any other animal in what it considers its space. Most cats when challenged, especially by a large dog, will run. Dogs love to run after anything. Smart cats are those that have learned to sit there and look at the dog with a "You talkin' to me?" look and yawn. If the dog gets his nose too close, the cat will introduce it to its claws, which will usually discourage further stupidity on the part of the dog.

They do. Just have to get used to each other. All cats and dogs are different. One of my cats loves everyone and everything and the other is jealous of everything. Both my dogs love all things, cats, dogs and peopel.

They do if you socialise them with eachother. The reason alot of cats hate dogs is because they wern't brought up around dogs.

Because they're different. As example, a dog will swing its tail if it wants to play. But for cat, it shows that they wants to fight.

They do if you raise them together as kittens and puppies.
They also sometimes get along if they are introduced very carefully if older than babies.
