Try brushing your teeth and tongue with baking soda, then gargle with mouthwash

The good news is you're on the right track, putting the question out there and realizing that you do have a problem.

First of all, you want to avoid or minimize food that actually make your breath worse. The bacteria loves the proteins from certain foods, which cause them to multiply and be more smelly. Onions and Garlic is one of them, Milk and Cheese, Fish (which is high in proteins) and Coffee, which has high levels of acids that cause the bacteria the reproduce more rapidly.

Second, improve your dental hygiene. Brush for two minutes every time, three times a day, floss and use oral rinse. Also use a tongue scraper to clean your tongue. That can also be a cause of bad breath. What I've been using is a dental regimen called Therabreath. The reason why I like them is because it is all natural and it works! It's active ingredient is Oxyd-8 which oxidizes the mouth, preventing dry mouth, and eliminating bad breath! Therabreath oral rinse makes your breath fresh for hours. Try their starter kit and see how it works for you. I know it has definitely worked for me.

Use a tounge scraper. Most of the bacteria which causes your breath to smell resides on your tounge, so after you brush your teeth and tounge, use a tounge scraper to get the rest of it off. I used to do that, and believe me, it works!
