Every once in a while I eat Fiber One bars, which have 9 grams of fiber in them. They always make my stomach hurt! Does that mean that my body just isn't used to having the proper amount of fiber?

Should I try and work my way up to be able to handle 9 grams of fiber?

OR could it mean that I'm used to getting TOO MUCH fiber as it is?!

I've been trying to eat healthier lately so I'm trying to figure out what I should do...

Hi Jamie! It could just be that particular bar. Try another brand with the same amount of fiber and see what happens. Also, you have to drink water with fiber (like with Metamucil.) I eat a big bowl of Kashi Go Lean cereal w/ cold water on the side (I don't dronk milk.) That's over 10 grams of fiber, I have a sip of water with each bite, which ends up being about 12ounces of water. I love it, and my stomach doesn't hurt. Good luck, and way to go, eating healthy!! :)

Fiber can be hard on the intestines. You say you eat a bar
every once in awhile. It does take some getting used to. You
need to eat a small snack(non-fiber) with the bar to help coat
the intestine. I have diverticulitis and fiber hurts me. I drink a glass of milk and eat a slice of toast with peanut butter when I take fiber. Citrucel is one product that doesn't have the ingredient that some other do that causes gas & pain. This is what my Dr. reccommended. Good luck.

I think it is just the bars. My dad and I tried Fiber One bars before and we both got diarrhea and I've heard of other people getting sick from them. It has nothing to do with the amount of fiber. If you want a lot of friber I'd say your best bet is All Bran or Fiber One Cereal - they have like 14 grams of fiber and they shouldn't make you sick ;).

If your dog wont eat the fiber bars then you shouldn't eat them.
You will have to buy coconut oil and olive oil and stop eating margarine and soy cooking oils. The make great bio diesel fuels but in the gut of some of us they form acid growth and that makes us over eat... trust me.

Here is what I think about it. You are lucky. Because your body is healthy enough to still react to bad stuff you put in it.
It aches to prompt you to stop eating this crap.

Merck (below) is THE most used and comprehensive and authoritative source of medical information that every MD is using. It's available online for free. So do your homework and read about fiber from trusted sources, and don't listen what media and advertisements tell you.

drink water with them

The only reason I said drink water w/ them is it helps them digest better.
Ok.....maybe it's just those bars. I know if I eat too much fibery stuff at once I feel like it takes forever to digest. break it in half and space it out.
