From a Chaplain in Iraq.

"I recently attended a showing of "Superman 3" here at LSA Anaconda. We
have a large auditorium we use for movies as well as memorial services
and other large gatherings. As is the custom back in the States, we
stood and snapped to attention when the National Anthem began before the
main feature. All was going as planned until about three-quarters of the
way through the National Anthem the music stopped.

Now, what would happen if this occurred with 1,000 18-22 year-olds back
in the States? I imagine there would be hoots, catcalls, laughter, a few
rude comments, and everyone would sit down and call for a movie. Of
course, that is, if they had stood for the National Anthem in the first
place.

Here, the 1,000 Soldiers continued to stand at attention, eyes fixed
forward. The music started again. The Soldiers continued to quietly
stand at attention. And again, at the same point, the music stopped.
What would you expect to happen? Even here I would imagine laughter as
everyone sat down and expected the movie to start.

Here, you could have heard a pin drop. Every Soldier stood at attention.
Suddenly there was a lone voice, then a dozen, and quickly the room was
filled with the voices of a thousand Soldiers

'And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof
through the night that our flag was still there.
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave, o'er the land of the free
and the home of the brave?'

It was the most inspiring moment I have had here in Iraq. I wanted you
to know what kind of Soldiers are serving you here.

it extremely is a be conscious that has been over used to the factor of being particularly much meaningless. it extremely is meant to signify some thing that evokes concern and attractiveness, like MT. ST. Helens erupting, no longer french fries or a pair of denims. whether it extremely is an marvelous question, dude.

The National Anthem is played before the showing of the movie at every base and station movie theater in the military and that has been the case of all of my adult life. Each time I attend a ball game at my minor league park I sing it loud and clear.
But, I think Chaplain Higgins missed one of the "inside jokes" regarding the base he was at. According to the Muslim religion, the angel Gabriel grabbed the Propher around his waist and ordered him to recite. He did so and that is the origin of the Koran. Well, an anaconda is a snake which subdues its prey by squeezing it. Someone in the military chain of command showedd a finely tuned sense of humor in originally naming the place Forward Operating Base Anaconda.

EDIT: Olivia, when you pick up a rifle and protect this great country along side these courageous and heroic men and women, THEN you can spew that garbage. Until then, I am sure that they would appreciate it if you just sat there and thanked them for doing what many have refused to do to protect you, your family, and the rest of us from harm.

Yes, it is absolutely awesome.

I am so sick and tired of being bombarded by the left of what fools we are, how stupid we are, and that America isn't worth fighting for.

To hear stories like this gives me hope for the future of this country, and hope that my daughters will find and marry fine men such as those in Iraq.

You shouldn't assume what you don't know. Remember what the word assume means.

Pretty much every person I know stands and sings the national anthem.

While your service to our country is commendable, your ignorance of the average American is not.

that is so very true.course the liberals back in the u.s would complain about the national anthem being played in the first place. they're even trying to get rid of the pledge of allegiance.
