My Amazon is 19 yrs old and he does the same thing. The other day I was in the bathroom all of a sudden I hear him rattling off all kinds of sounds and words ,that I have never heard him say before. As soon as I poked my head around the corner, he stopped. Then he started up again and I just started answering back from the other room out of sight and we chatted for quite a while. They are very interesting pets, I wonder how much they really understand, more than we think, I'm sure. I talk to him just like as if he is a real person. And I think he understands most of the time.

Our Quaker talks a lot when we are out of the room too. My wife believes that he is practicing his words so that he can talk to us better. Sure enough, he is constantly coming up with new words and phrases that we didn't teach him!

try covering his cage and dimming the light in the room then talk to him he will eventually get used to talking to you and take the cover off a little bit at a time try this and see if it helps .

Bird use talking and, unfortunately, screaming, to communicate over distances.

So when you leave he is actually calling out to you. If you talk to him when he starts talking to you, he will learn those word fairly quickly.
