One would think that this wouldn't happen, but it does. Any severe blunt trauma can rupture an eyeball. Usually it's a fist, or an object such as a stick or something hard that hits the eye with enough force that causes the sclera to rupture. The thinnest part of the sclera is around the muscle insertions. This is where we find most ruptures. Direct blunt trauma can lacerate the eye as well and this can occur anywhere in the front part of the eye. Most posterior ruptures occur along with the anterior damage.
The repair of these severe injures is time consuming and frequently not all that helpful as the trauma damages structures such as the nerve, the retina, the ciliary body, etc. to the point where they don't regain their ability to function normaly. On top of that they have to recover from the repair.
The most severe ocular traumas occur in auto accidents, fights, gun/knife clubs on friday/saturday nights, etc. BB's cause a severe type of injury which just tears the tissues inside the eye. We can remove the BB, but the concussion just kills the eye itself. They don't see again (usually).

Try putting it in the microwave (I think it would explode just like an egg still in the shell). It would need to be removed from the person/animal first of course.
