I've had a piece of glass stuck in my finger for over a year now and it seems to have healed without any infections. I can feel the piece of glass in my finger. I was wondering if it will get any worse and if it will stay there the rest of my life. Any suggestions on what to do?

The body will continue to try to get the foreign body out. It may eventually work its way out. As for now, it is fine. I dont beleive it will cause any long term problems. Any concern, make sure you see your doctor.

If it has healed without infection, it is likely not to pose an infection risk. If there are any sharp edges, or if you hit your finger in a way that breaks the piece of glass, you might have some internal bleeding or even cutting to the surface, If it is fairly close to the surface, it might eventually be shoved out by your body.

You don't say what finger, but in general it is better not to have a piece of glass in your finger, so I would suggest seeing a doctor.

I've had a piece of glass in my pointer finger for about 20 years. To be honest I forgot all about it until recently my finger tip started feeling very numb and then I hit my finger and the pain was terrible. I immediately thought about the glass. I need to go to the doctor, I feel like th glass is pricking at my nerves. I suggest you go to the dr and get it out.

Glass itself is inert. It is not harmful in itself. But it can provide a conduit for infection. You can have it removed by a doctor or leave it until comes out on it's own. I had a 1/2 inch piece of glass spontaneously dislodge itself from the tip of my finger. I have no idea how long it was in there. It never hurt.

Well i've heard some bad things about things that stayed in a person's inner skin, but mainly that was wood and later on they got an infection from it, but i'm sure if nothing has happened yet, your fine. I do know one thing if this does happen again with anything, that if you put on a piece of adhesive tape usually over night this draw it to the top and it will come right out. usually is stuck to the adhesive.
