Do you do this? Allow your five year old to wear little girl makeup in regards to her dressing up in her 'play clothes'

My daughter asked me this last night, I said no way initially but upon thinking don't see any harm in her using it in her room as long as she washes it off before she leaves her room and certainly not outside.

Isn't it normal to do it as far as play and imagination goes? Plus it's makeup that is really not noticeable or gawdy looking.

I know when I was a girl, I'd go into my moms drawers and put it on in regards to play and I bet my mom wished she had little girl stuff for me b/c I probably ruined hers smearing it all over me lol!

I have given her the lip gloss already and cream that she uses as nightcream (like I do) and had 'play makeup' that was plastic and didn't go on her, she lost interest fast and I picked her up this makeup in a kit with little girl accessories and packed it away but I'm thinking of giving it too her.

Thanks!

Yeah I'm sure that it would be okay! She is a little girl and as long as you clean her up!! Some day when she is older she will be real good at putting make up on! I'm sure you can go to walmart and get her some makeup for her to play with!

If you let her play with it only do a LIGHT LIGHT pink blush. You want to teach them that since she is a little girl she can only use a little make-up. A better idea would be get some baby powder and put it on a blush applier and do that then after an hour or so wash it off. If you don't mind soending a few bucks, you can go out to a target of wal*mart and buy her one of those make-up/dress-up kits. with all the fake plastic make up and tiny hand mirrors. I had one of those when I was little and I had a blast. That would be my adivce! Good Luck!! :-)

A big part of being a little girl is playing dress up and wanting to be like mommy!! Let her put make up on while playing!! But, don't allow her to wear it out of the house! Just set rules as to when, where and what make up she can use!!

It's normal for a girl her age to want to do what mommy does. As long as it's for play, I see no problem with it.
However, if it's a regular thing for her to do then find some play "dress up" make-up just for her that is made for little girls skin. Grown up's cosmetics can sometimes cause irritation or allergic reactions due to all the extra ingredients.

My daughter is 2 1/2 years old. My sis-in-law will put full make-up on her and dress her up in her old dance costumes and take pictures. It is sooo cute. I put make-up on my daughter too and let her play with old, empty powder compacts, and lip gloss. I think it's great that she's having fun and she's a girly-girl. I won't ever restrict make-up but teach her how to wear it appropriately when she is older. I had friends that weren't allowed to wear make-up until they were older and they ended up looking like clowns. I was never restricted on wearing make-up and hardly wore any until I was older (grunge look was in when I was in high school, flannels, jeans, and doc martens were cool then). Dress-up is fun for both my daughter and me. She likes putting make-up on me too.

Its very cute and common for girls to play with makeup at young ages! I wouldn't allow her to use dark colors but glitter and a bit of lip gloss is fine!

My little girl gets my brushes and acts like she is putting it on when I am putting it on. I think that it would be find to play with in her room, it is not like she is leaving the house in it.

You could get her some of those colored lip gloss to wear/play with.

I think its better to let her wear it in her room. When I was little, my mom wouldn't let me do that, so i would sneak into her room in the middle of the night and put on makeup. She would see it all smeared on my face in the morning. I think it would be better to not have your daughter doing that kind of thing.

I let my little girls play in make-up. They have kid make-up that doesn't stain and nail polish that peals off when it dries. So I let them paint my toe nails. If I'm done with errands and such for the day, I will let them put make-up on me before I take a shower. Its all a part of growing up!
I love it!
