To acquire Taqwa.

Taqwa = God Consciousness so we feel we are in the presence of ALLAH all the time.

This state of communion and personal connection is developed through the 5 times a day prayers and the blessings of fasting in this very holy month when the Quran was revealed.

When we feel we are living as in the sight of Allah then we will be motivated to do good and ward off evil.

During Ramadhan we make special intentions to fast all day and worship most of the night.

Make intentions to remember all the Muslims and non Muslims in our prayers. We have been sent as a mercy unto mankind and keeping the heart clean of all darkness is paramount.

That is the greatest Jihad .

I wish insha'allah To perfect my prayers. To read the whole Quran during this month. To learn more suras. To not lose patience at work as much (this is where I generally lose it, lol). To spend more time playing with my cat. :) To be a better wife. To be a better daughter. To be a better sister. To be a better friend. To find a mosque in my area where I feel at peace and make it a point to continue going there when Ramadan is over. (Where I now live the closest mosque is 99.99% immigrant and I don't feel comfortable there, nor do I feel welcome. :( so sad...) To be a better student and not let Ramadan be an excuse for not studying enough. To find a job that I enjoy more and pays more. To stop cussing. To exercise more. To find a better balance between all aspects of my life. To send thank you cards to all the people who I have been meaning to thank...my sister-in-law actually called me about this the other day because she thinks I am so good at it and she lets things go for a long time. I told her that many times I do that too and lots of people don't seem to care anymore...but I said I think even if a long time went by it would mean something to the person who gets the thank you. You never know if they are having a bad day or something so you can really make their day by doing that. I told her she should do it over Ramadan and she said she will, I have decided to do that this month too. I even picked out the cards I will use LOL. To be a better Muslim. Wow, I have a long list. ! Insha'allah, I can accomplis these things and keep them up after Ramadan. Insha'allah all my brothers and sisters can keep all their goals! Ramadan Karim everyone!

This is my first Ramadan and I am not able to fast for medical reasons. Instead, I will give food to the poor and I will make more of an effort to learn more about Islam. I read every day now, but I will study much more during this time.
