Bushes did burn naturally (as they do today), but they were almost always consumed quickly.

To my understanding (spontaneous combustion), maybe not common but yes it could happen. However the fact that what the author recorded here was a bush seen by Moses that burned without being consumed; and there was a voice heard by Moses that came from the bush ... Not very common, miraculous even.

Why should they be more common then than now?
Some scientist suspected that a little natural gas catching fire just below an acacia bush might produce such an effect, but I have to wonder how it would catch, and how Moses would fail to notice that all the leaves were gone.
Doesn't dictamnus burn up when it catches? The Bible says the plant survived the ordeal.

It is very common nowadays.
As for the specific talking burning bush. "Their can be only one!". (Highlander theme music starts playing in background).
Edit:
Yes. That is why I say "Their can be only one!" the herbal bush that burns does so to help the growth of the next generation by its own self-destruction. So it would be a different bush than Moses's bush , but they do draw comparisons between the two.

Back when I was a boy, in Moses's time, my job around the farm was to put out all the fires caused by burning bushes. They were just loaded with flammable resins and after soaking up heat in the sun all day would just "whoooof" right into flame. If there happened to be any sheep nearby, they'd catch fire and go running around spreading the conflagration among the herd.
It was irksome, to say the least.

Burning as in going up with flames
or burning in as being lit up with the light of some spirit within revealing itself to the naked eye?
Looking as if it was made out of fireworks instead of just gross matter....
It is my opinion that those that have the eyes to see what most everyone else is unable to see were very very uncommon in all times
but the bushes, trees flowers and all the other 'Natural' stuff that always has that life dwelling within has always been common and around Yes! It is just that the Principle Life within it that gives it Presence and Growth is seldom percieved.

Moses substitute into the single that won the ten commandments from God; in case you study your Bible, you will see that the 1st time he got here down from the mountain, he had extra beneficial than ten commandments. He observed what all of the persons have been doing and destroyed the stones the commandments have been written on, then he went returned up the mountain and confident God to no longer harm the persons. God then created the ten commandments, which Moses then took pass into opposite the mountain and gave to the persons. Abraham substitute into the main dedicated guy on the earth as properly Jesus to stick to the notice of God; the commandments had no longer been written yet . God spoke to Abraham on extra beneficial than one social gathering and alter into instrumental in saving his nephew Lot from Sodom.
