I don't know, but if it is only for a cider recipe it would be fine to "season to taste" with the cinnamon. However, if I were to guess I would say one teaspoon.

You will choke on it if you put too much. Just start with a pinch of ground cinnamon for every cup of cider you are making.

Ground cinnamon is make by taking the stick cinnamon and putting it into a grinder like you would use to grind coffee beans. 1 stick in solid form, used as a swizzle in a cup of cider, would add a nice touch of flavor. If you ground that same stick, and put it all in, you would make it un-drinkable.

Once it is ground, it will release much much more flavor, and requires much less to season a drink.

Actually, with most ground or dried spices and herbs, you would use significantly less of them to equal the actual product, so one teaspoon of garlic powder would be equal to a lot more minced garlic.

Use only a very tiny amount, taste it to see if it's good. With cinnamon sticks, this would especially be true, since they offer a subtle flavor and aroma, nearly to the point of being used mainly for garnish.

Cinnamon bark (sticks) are used for subtle flavoring.

Uses

Quills of true cinnamon barkCinnamon bark is widely used as a spice. It is principally employed in cookery as a condiment and flavouring material, being largely used in the preparation of some kinds of desserts, chocolate, spicy candies, tea, hot cocoa and liqueurs. In the Middle East, it is often used in savoury dishes of chicken and lamb. In the United States, cinnamon and sugar are often used to flavour cereals, bread-based dishes, and fruits, especially apples; a cinnamon-sugar mixture is even sold separately for such purposes. Cinnamon can also be used in pickling. Cinnamon bark is one of the few spices which can be consumed directly.

In medicine it acts like other volatile oils and once had a reputation as a cure for colds. It has also been used to treat diarrhea and other problems of the digestive system.[2] Cinnamon is high in antioxidant activity (PMID 16190627, PMID 10077878). The essential oil of cinnamon also has antimicrobial properties (PMID 16104824), which aid in the preservation of certain foods.[3]

In the media, "cinnamon" has been reported to have remarkable pharmacological effects in the treatment of type II diabetes. However, the plant material used in the study (PMID 14633804) was actually cassia, as opposed to true cinnamon. Please refer to cassia's medicinal uses for more information about its health benefits. Cinnamon has traditionally been used to treat toothache and fight bad breath and its regular use is believed to stave off common cold and aid digestion.[4]

Cinnamon is used in the system of Thelemic Magick for the invocation of Apollo, according to the correspondences listed in Aleister Crowley's work Liber 777.

Cinnamon is also used as an insect repellent.

Isn't a more important question of how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?
