How many Catholcs understand the sum and summit of our worship?
I wash SHOCKED in an earlier question to see how many Catholics thought that the Bread and Wine were just "symbolic" of Christ's Body and Blood. It is NOT. That is a protestant belief, not Catholic. It is at the core of the Catholic faith that when the priests speaks the words of Christ over the bread and wine that they are NO LONGER bread and wine, but are now the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ, under the appearance of bread and wine. That is the doctrine of "Transubstatiation".
Here is a link to an explanation of "Transubstatiation":
http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/05573a.htm#3
"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day" (John 6:53–55).
Learn your faith! Are their any Catholics out there who DO understand this?

Many non practicing Catholics(spiritually lazy )and or dogma-dissenting "Catholics" or unevangelized but baptized"pre Catholic"Catholics have no idea what and Who the Eucharist is and that is why they can't be bothered to go weekly to Sunday Mass or go to Eucharistic Adoration.
Of course, many priests never preach about the Real Presence or other crucial teachings of Catholicism or Pre-Zwinglian Trinitarian and orthodox Christianity.
Let us pray in front of the Tabernacle for the Eucharistic inspiration of all Christians by the Holy Spirit!

I think most Catholics fully believe and understand the doctrine of transubstantiation.
At the Last Supper, Jesus said, “Take this bread. It is my body.” Then he said, “Take this and drink. This is my blood. Do this in memory of me.”
Catholics believe this was the First Eucharist, that through a miracle the bread and wine actually became the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
Catholics reenact the Last Supper during every Mass, where God, acting through the priest, changes the bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
This is a great sacrament of thanksgiving and unity of Catholics.
By the way, the Orthodox, Lutheran and many Anglican Churches also believe in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.
For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 1322 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt2sect2chpt1art3.htm
With love in Christ.

It really bugs me to no end that the RC rite uses only the bread, not the wine. Or flesh, and not the blood, as the case may so be. This was one of the most difficult things for me to get used to when I got married. I wish they would change that because it makes me cry that His Precious Blood is withheld from the people He desires to have it.
I can see the effects of this in the world. The world has indeed turned into a spiritual desert.

Yes I do understand it. Many Catholics also refuse to fully understan the Nicene Creed.
Unfortunately Many think We believe in Canabalism as the Romans did. What a sad and limited view. If a CATHOLIC cannot understand how taking in the blood and body of Christ is an enriching art of their sprituality, how can they take the sacrament? How can they be Catholics?

CC you are worried about so many things, but you really only need to focus on one - love of God. Then love for others will follow. The sum total of God's mercy towards us cannot fully be known in this life, neither can our knowledge about all theological matters reach a summit within one lifetime even as a devout Catholic.

"For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me." 1 Corinthians 11:23-24
"And he (Jesus) took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me." Luke 22:19
Key words: "in remembrance of me". It's symbolic.
Plus:
"But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat." Genesis 9:4
"... No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood." Leviticus 17:12

I'm no longer Catholic, but I certainly understood this.
Kind of gross and cannibalistic, isn't it? I like the Protestant view better.
