Well I believe that God has a will for each and every one of us and for believers (Christians), whatever situation, with faith in God and in obedience to His will, nothing happens that should not, so yes, I do believe that everything happens for a reason, even the terrible tragedies. There's a verse: all things work for the good of those who love Him. I believe that. plus our God works in mysterious ways, you may never see the outcome in this life but all will be revealed in eternity, glory be to God.

I'm not a religious/spiritual person (although I used to be) and understand now that randomness is a key part of existence.

The human mind loathes uncertainty and looks for order, even when there is none to be found. Thus, "God" created everything, JFK must have been the victim of a conspiracy, etc.

If such a higher power exists and everything DOES happen for a reason, then such a higher power is oblivious to the unnecessary pain and havoc which it inflicts (or allows to be inflicted) on billions of innocent people.

How do the occidental religions explain such a thing? By asserting that we are all created in "original sin," so therefore, by our very existence we are deserving of whatever horrors fall upon us during life - even if you happen to have been born into a brutal existence of starvation and exile.

Frankly, I find such a philosophy to be offensive in the extreme because it very conveniently blames the victim for their lot in life when, indeed, they may have done absolutely nothing (beyond the crime of being born) to contribute to their dire situation.

So no, things don't necessarily happen for a reason.

Read a book by the Dalai Lima on the convergence of Science and Spirituality. You'll get it. Yes I am religious. Before I was wondering how to pray and stuff and now that I am try to be more closer to God I feel much more whole. May not be logical belief but oh well. How is the universe in such great order? Perhaps God helps preserve these laws.

No, I think there is a master plan if you will. The details are left open to what ever. If a leaf falls or I brake wind that is not a part of the master plan. As a Gnostic I do believe the discovery of "The Dead Sea Scrolls," "The Gospel of Judas," the documents found at Nag Hammadi Egypt and such are part of the master plan. The new age is here and in it's infancy. These findings are meant for our spiritual growth at this time, IN MY OPENION!

We all do things for a reason. We have a reason that may only make loose sense to us, but we had a reason to start.

The thing is, most things are random. Outside influences can skew the best of reason and intent. After describing the condition of the dead, Eccles. 9:11 goes on in the latter part to say, "time and unforeseen occurrence befall us all."

The choices we make are not set in stone. They influence how things turn out.

No I don't believe that everything happens for a reason. However, I'm open to someone to try to convince me otherwise. I've just seen/experienced too many things where the "right" outcome never occurred. So I'm left with many mysteries instead.

Yeah I believe everything happens for a reason and that God does things for a reason even if we don't know what the reasons are.

I don't know about other religions but I am a Muslim and, according to our religion, nothing happens without God's will and knowledge. However, God gave something to people that no other being that God created has: free will to make decisions. So we are in a way responsible for what we do and we influence our environment but that is also God's will.

yes although some things that happen don't make sense and you think how can that possibly be for a greater purpose but everything does happen for a reason and things can only get better and it wouldn't happen if it wasn't to do you good.

I believe exactly what Scripture says, that "All things work together for the good of those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose."
