Yes, I believe that the more kids raised in a righteous home, the better. I love kids. My wife is pregnant with our first child, and we are very excited.

I knew a Mormon who had 6 children. He believed birth control was wrong, but I don't think this is an official doctrine of the LDS church.
They do, however stress strong family values and that children are a blessing from the Lord. (While I disagree with much of their doctrine, I admire their stand for strong families and their opposition to abortion.)
Also, I believe early in their church history, they were encouraged to have large families to increase the number of Mormons. I think, this was also why husbands were encouraged to have more than one wife.

I just heard a story on NPR that to the affluent in Connecticut, having larger families is now the thing to do. 4 is the new 2.

They believe they are commanded by God to multiply and replenish the earth. I'm not sure the origin of this doctrine, but they do believe that God commands them to have as many kids as they can comfortably support

Lots of "unprotected" sexual relations with their legal spouse (note only one spouse).
This is true for any large family with only one husband and one wife -- regardless of any religious affiliation.
There is no quota system for how many -- having as many kids as you want is not discouraged.

Here you go again! How many children do you have? And why, pray tell us all, why did you have them? Did you have some evil intention in mind? Oh, please tell us?
I would imagine that people have children to carry on their line, or maybe to have an extention of themselves! Who knows why people have children? Why do Catholics have children? Why do Fundies have children, why do Jews have children!

They believe there are spirit children waiting in heaven for bodies and it is there responsibility to have children for these spirits. I am not sure, you may want to ask a real mormon, but I think they believe that God has had sex with women and produced these spirit children.
