O M G !!!!

What are you thinking, to even ask such a question?!?!?!

That's just what I want to do — turn my kids into junkies before they even get into pre-school.

Guess what. Life is not easy, with or without children, just different. There is no way EVER, that I would consider sedating my children to make life easier.

If things got to be that bad, I would hire a baby-sitter for the evening or afternoon, take my husband or a girlfriend, & go chill out in a movie theater for 2 hours.

My friend, L, has 3 little ones. By the time her husband comes home, she has had it up to her eyeballs. So, hubby takes the kids for an hour to play with them, while she gets into bed to read a book, magazine or simply take a nap.

This way, he gets an hour to himself in the middle of the workday. She gets an hour to herself in the early evening of her workday; and then they spend the rest of the evening together as a family. It works fine for them. Drug-free children AND parents.

Anyone who sedates their children for an easy life is selfish and, most likely, a criminal.

Define "healthy" (and indeed define "sedate").

Many parents give their children medicines which can aid sleep or cause drowsiness - eg Calpol - when those children have a condition which is stopping them sleeping - cold, headache, maybe a touch of sunstroke (paracetamol and ibuprofen both reduce body temperature).

I would think it unlikely that, for instance, a doctor - whose livelihood comes from knowing safe doses of medicines - could accidentally kill his or her child by sedating her with such substances.

WTF?!?!

What sort of question is that!

Never ever ever!

Anyone who deliberately sedates a child for an easy life is guilty of child abuse.

I even hate giving my son Calpol when he has a fever/teething pain etc because it makes him dopey!! I would only ever use Calpol when he needed it because he was unwell or in pain, never just because I "wanted a break". If you feel like that then DON'T HAVE KIDS!!!

My MIL used to use this stuff called "Medised" which is an infant painkiller with a mild sedative on her children and she kept buying me bottles of the stuff to use when my son was ill - and I used to throw them away.

no never. why would you even both having children if looking after them was going to be an inconvenience to you?

having children is hard work and tiring but it's worth it when your baby smiles at you or your toddler draws a picture of you which by the way looks nothing like you at all unless you have green hair and yellow lips and red eyes!!

I have only heard of people giving benedryl to their children if they are flying so their kids will sleep for the flight, but I have never heard of people drugging their kids in order to help control them. People that do that should have their kids taken from them. How are kids supposed to learn if they are drugged all the time?

i would never give my children calpol etc just because i want them to sleep. but i would give calpol if they are being kept awake because of teething/ temp/ just so they have a settled night but would also keep checking them through the night. and would never ever leave them so i could go out for a meal! etc... but this question is very missleading. mums often give pain relief to their children when they are in discomfort for many reasons. teething/ after injections/colds/temps/etc. they give it 2 them to ease the pain not for them to go to sleep.... does the same question pose if u gave ur child calpol,,etc in the daytime for pain/discomfort...
