I want to add myself to the list of people who agree with you that its up to us to bring about peace in this world.
Waiting for divine intervention is the quickest way to ensure that it doesn't happen.
Was it Voltaire who said "The only requirement for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing."
(and women of course)
Lets all work for peace love and mutual respect.
Surely we can only make things better.

I believe that peace is here, but many don't want it, like you mention..... what they want is answers, proof, and some don't think it will happen until Jesus comes, and some won't until they have proof. Perhaps peace in this form will come if everyone would respect one an others perspectives, and not mow over them, like the grass that reaches for the sky seeking their growth.
I know I stepped on some toes now and then, not meaning to, I tend to be a bit strong in the way I feel, and at times a bit forward to the point. And perhaps that's where we all should pay more attention, we need to be stepping more gently when answering and asking questions.

Just like you said, there is no doubt that Jesus (pbuh) is returning and there is no doubt that the anti-Christ will come to deceive many people before his return. It's not exactly who Jesus (pbuh) accepts, but rather who of US accepts him when he returns. That part is up to us, we get to choose whether we accept him or not. And our faith will determine our choice because those who are weak in faith will follow the anti-Christ instead, may Allah protect us from him and his corruptions. From what I know through many lectures, the majority that will follow Jesus (pbuh) will be Muslims true to their faith, and also some Christians who see the truth once he returns. But even many Muslims who are weak in faith will end up following the anti-Christ because he is very deceptive with his powers. The bottom line is, those who truly believe in One God and do not associate Jesus (pbuh) or anyone else to Him will see the truth inshallah and will be the ones who accept Jesus (pbuh). Those are the people with such strong faith that makes them aware of the deceptions of the anti-Christ. To my Muslim brothers and sisters, take the opportunity to memorize the first and last 10 verses of Surat al-Kahf so that if we live in the era of the Dajjal and Isa (as), we will be protected from the deceptions and be on Jesus' side! Salaam~

If people reason and feel and end up being united then those who have forged religious positions of power will fall that's why they'll say of anyone who wants to bring peace to the world that they are in cahoots with the devil. Don't worry we're all waking up, some before than others and peace will be accomplished, it's meant to be.
Don't people believe that Jesus came and we made a huge mistake with him? He taught us a lesson and now we must fix what we've broken just like children, he won't come back until the house is in order. That's how I see it. I may be wrong, who knows...

I know your heart is in the right place and many people feel the same way you do, but there will be a spiritual fight of good vs. evil in the world one day and that can't be stopped. I believe most people are peaceful, but there will always be someone who doesn't want peace, for whatever reason. It's not always spiritual. It's mostly greed and a lust for power that ruins the chances for peace.
Jews believe a Messiah will come. Christians believe Jesus will come. Muslims believe Imam Mahdi will come and bring justice and peace before Jesus returns. The Anti-Christ will come and fool people into believing he brought peace at last, and then his true colors will show and the peace is over...until Jesus!
I just think that person who answered your other question was trying to warn you. You cannot expect every person in the world to embrace each other. There will always be someone who will take advantage of peace for selfish reasons. It's unfortunate, but true, that real evil exists in the world.
God Bless.

Yes, I'll have to side with those who tell you that it cannot be done by man's ( or woman's ) effort. The best a government can do is try to control everybody, and there are too many examples of that not working!
I would differ from my Christian brethren and say that there will be a short peace when the Antichrist ( not John's definition ) comes to power.
The Great Tribulation will be in effect at that time.
Not that you have to believe any of that, but I am telling you why I don't think it's possible to bring peace to the world until the Second Coming. Please understand, the Second Coming is somewhat detailed in Zechariah 14.

And that does not start off too peacefully! Rather, it starts with many being killed, all those who come against Jerusalem.

While your hypothesis is perhaps a noble one, it sadly is just not going to happen... and I think we live more realistically when we realize and accept that.
Can we envision harmony and cooperation? You and I can, yes. But in a world of 6.2 billion the contradictory, the broken, the evil will continue to manifest. Even Adam and Eve couldn't follow God, and it was just the two of them!
Rick Warren has said that life is not peaks and valleys... it is more like a train riding on two rails - one the good stuff, one the bad stuff. I like that.
What can we do? We can influence the part of the world that we are in, that we touch... and that matters a great deal. Be a great role model to a nephew, or a friend, live selflessly and see how others benefit - and watch yourself get more out of it than they do.
Trust in God with all of your heart, you will find a meaningful life that makes sense.
Then when Christ somes we will have a gift of life without pain, fear, sorrow - what he intended.

Gee, huggy, why didn't Jesus just go hug the Pharisees?
Why didn't Jesus just embrace the Roman and Jewish leaders with a big hug and "let's all have peace"?
Obviously you believe the source of peace is MAN. The source of Peace is God our Savior the Lord Jesus Christ.
Even Jesus, the Prince of Peace, warns:
Matthew 7:6, "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you."

That's the problem with faiths like yours (respect by the way, you live as you like). I think all Christians would love to have peace but our faith must reflect reality. Even if everybody on Y! answers pledged to make peace, we know in our hearts that it won't happen, we are not all peaceful people. I can't even keep peace in my own house! Because of the fall of the human race, peace is impossible. The Bible puts it like this,'every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time..' Genesis 6:6.
The Bible does also say, 'Blessed are the peacemakers' so peace making is desirable for us. But we see in the Word that the world is going to be a bad place and we trust God enough to know that it will be as He says, even if every Christian was a peace maker.
You only need to look around you to see the truth of this. It's not Christians burying their heads.

Real Christians recognize that we don't understand the Bible fully--where prophecy is concerned, at least. So we don't know whether the world will achive peace without Christ's return or not.
Unfortunately, the "religious right" is usuing the "no peace until Christ's coming" as an excuse for killing and war.
But--while we may not understand all of the Bible, Christ's teachings--including on this issue--are crystal clear. We--as Christians, are to seek peace and avoid violence as much as we can. The contention to the contrary by the religious right simply shows they are not good Christians--if they are Christians at all.

If a person feels at peace within then they will spread joy and good feelings to others. If a person feels hatred inside then they will pass on fear and destruction to others. It has nothing to do with the return of Christ or any other holy figure.
