The Apostle Paul clearly taught that we receive the Holy Spirit the moment we believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior. 1 Corinthians 12:13 declares, "For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body-whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free - and we were all given the one Spirit to drink." Romans 8:9 tells us that if a person does not possess the Holy Spirit, he or she does not belong to Christ - "You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ." Ephesians 1:13-14 teaches us that the Holy Spirit is the seal of salvation for all those who believe, "Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession-to the praise of his glory."

Jesus explained it to Nicodemus in John chapter 3 saying that one must be born of the flesh first and then later born of the Spirit. This experience is called being born again or salvation, which is when our spiritual life begins. We are all on a search for the Truth that begins when our life begins, unfortunately some reject the Truth that would truly set them free, so they never become born again or start their true spiritual life. They live life following after a false spritual life that is based on lies rather than the Truth. May all Believers remember to pray for these misguided souls.

At conception we already have out spirit. John knew Jesus even though they were both in their mother's wombs.

We receive the "gift" of the Holy Spirit when we obey and are baptized for the remission of our past sins. After that time, we walk in newness of life with the Spirit.

Both instances are spiritual beginnings.

We all have spirit, so spiritual life comes with self-awareness.

Some would say it comes at life itself (birth, or to some pre-birth) but, to my mind, a baby or fetus may have it but they are unaware of it because they are unaware of themselves as living beings.

If we use the Socratian idea of "Cogito ergo sum", about the time you become aware you are thinking...then your spiritual life really begins.
