The further in advance you can book, the cheaper you'll get a ticket, generally.

Eurostar's current headline fares to Brussels, which have to be booked *at least* 21 days in advance, are £59 Return (available for Midweek or Weekend Day Returns, or with a minimum of one night or Saturday night away) for most people, £49 for those under 26 (no Advance Purchase requirement) in Standard Class.

The headline journey time is currently 2 hours 16 minutes for Waterloo to Brussels (07:42 from Waterloo, arriving Brussels 10:58 local time) and 2 hours 11 minutes for Brussels to Waterloo (08:17 from Brussels, arriving Waterloo 09:28 UK time).

Once Eurostar move to St Pancras in November, those times will be reduced by around 20 minutes, giving a headline figure of 1 hour 56 minutes from St Pancras to Brussels (in which time you'd be about 5 minutes short of Chesterfield station on a Midland Mainline train from St Pancras) and 1 hour 51 minutes in the other direction.

There is only one way using train only and that is by Eurostar. Check their website for offers. Look at this site for details of offers via train and ferry:-http://www.seat61.com/

Currently Eurostar takes just under three hours.
