Humphry Davy

In 1802, Humphry Davy created the first incandescent light by passing current through a thin strip of platinum, chosen because the metal had an extremely high melting point.
Unfortunately it was not bright enough nor did it last long enough to be practical.

In 1879 Thomas Edison invented the first practical incandescent lamp. His was the first commercially viable light bulb.

Benjamin Franklin discovered electricity; but I'm not sure who in fact invented the lightbulb............... Hmmm, they probably adjusted Franklin's idea into a kilowatt bulb. Lightbulbs didn't come into existence until the early part of the 21st century (1900's).
