I am looking at a classic car to buy in Canada. I live in California. The car is $75,000 Canadian money. How much would it be in American money? Thank you.

The exchange rate changes many times in a hour. Last Thursday I got $102 CAN in exchange for $100 US.

Did you enquire about the hassle of bringing a Canadian car in USA? I live right at the border on the American side, and I have heard many people complaining about too much red tape in doing so.

Until you go to the trouble of converting the money, about the same. You will also have to pay 2 different sales taxes (which used to be refundable to US visitors, but aren't any longer), a federal and a provincial sales tax. You will also find it extremely difficult to title and register a car in California not bought in the US.

I lived in Hong Kong for almost 4 years 99' to 02' and I miss it everyday. I had the time of my life. I worked as an ex pat so I paid no taxes in the US or HK and the company payed for housing and per diem plus travel expenses. I fell in love with the city living and public transportation, the buildings the life the people aaahhhh I will go back someday

It would be around $72,000 U.S. plus GST and PST, which are refundable with paperwork through customs to U.S. buyers in most cases.

However, there will likely be import fees, duty and other customs charges. Before you commit to buying, contact a customs broker to find out exactly what is involved and the fees you can expect to pay.
