If there is not God, if my whole existence is just some cosmic joke, what would I possibly gain if I lived with that belief? Yes, if it is a joke and our life is nothing beyond our limited existence on earth, I would be "right" if I believed that, but how would I ever know I was right? I wouldn't even get the pleasure of saying "I told you so".
I don't believe in God "just cuz of a book"...yes, I suppose it is theoretically possible that the bible is make believe, but I know of not one shred of evidence to support that belief. My faith is based on personal experience...on studying the bible (a collection of books, not just one book) and then questioning and testing the message in my own life...on asking God to reveal the meaning of the message in that book directly to me, and he has never let me down.
What if I'm wrong, then I'm wrong but at least I'll have lived my life with the hope of God and the joy that comes from believing he loves me. The personal peace that comes from my relationship with God is real even if he isn't (and I don't believe that for a second)...what peace or happiness could possibly come from believing that my life is meaningless and that all I have to look forward to is death.

You're right. Maybe it's all a lie. But I've had an abundant life believing it and lose nothing when I die.
But what if it's true? What if there is a God that loves you so much and you never accepted that love? You've now missed out on an abundant life and the opportunity to be eternally present with Him. It would really be a bummer, no?

I was raised in a Christian home, but when I turned 18 I decided to live my own life. I turned away from my belief system at that time and questioned everything, just as you are now. I think every Christian has asked these questions, but the answer to why we believe is because we have Faith through God's Grace. My life was in shambles and God pulled me out of it. He never lost sight of me, even though I lost sight of Him. I know he is REAL and a LIVING God because He has moved mountains in my life. Healed wounds and given me peace. We all have our own journey's to take, no one can give you the answers, but God by His Grace. Only you will know when God is speaking to you...or not. (Romans Chapter 9)

Many people have had person experiances with Gods. Some Jesus, some Odin, some Isis. That doesn't mean any of those Gods don't exist, only that it's our choice who we follow.
If we're wrong...well oh well. LOL Christians aren't the only one who believe in Gods. They just don't believe in more then thiers. That doesn't me he isn't real or even more so to them. I can't believe I am sticking up for the Christians today. Ugh.

What makes you think I just believe because of the Bible? I believe through personal revalation, and what God has done in my life and in others.
You called us out, and based your question on an assumption, if there was no God then nothing would change for me, and when I died I'd never know there wasn't a God, so there is no big deal.

I think it's the best way to live my life. My life isn't without problems but I love it and I love the whole experience of being in a relationship with God. I wouldn't change anything in my life, being a Christian has freed the most beautiful part of myself and I love this life and I'm happy for what's to come too.

Those are good questions...but let's ponder on this...since the beginning of time man has always worshiped a superior being. And even when their were several superior beings there was always one head being. So that makes me believe there has always been and will continue be a God!
